'Nearly half of parents' back corporal punishment

Nearly half of parents of secondary school children say corporal punishment such as the cane or slipper should be reintroduced, a survey suggests.
In total, 49% of more than 2,000 parents surveyed for the Times Educational Supplement were in favour, compared with 45% who were opposed
Many UK parants support bringing back the cane, if this survey was in Ireland would you support it or not?

Nearly half of UK parents are in favour of allowing other adults beat their children?

???????? Why on earth would you allow another person lay a hand on your child? Retarded.

    Nearly half is < 50%

Which means the majority don't agree!

More and more people want to pass off their responsibility as a Parent to others. Parents shouldn't rely on drivers to teach their children road safety. Likewise the only person who should discipline a child is their parents. God help any teacher that lays a finger on my child.

49% agreed, 45% disagreed. That means that of the people who gave their opinion, over 52% agreed with bringing back corporal punishment which is the majority.

Then it says 40% back caning and smacking (with 53% disagreeing).

I don't know who they asked, but this is complete ballocks! There is NO WAY 4 out of every 10 parents would let teachers assault their children. Not a hope!

I would not. Teaching kids that they should obey people who hit them probably isn't a good thing.

It also teaches that when people disobey you, you should hit them! Ridiculous!

What an odd article - the body of it is at odds with the headline (and the thread title)
