Just as an indicator of how skiing can be available as early as Sept/Oct on the glaciers, I see that a snow dump of 42 cm is forecast for this Sun and Mon at the top of Hintertux with approx 30 cm at the station at 2300 mtrs. Good news for anybody travelling near there over the weekend or early week.

Any ideas for good accomodation in Hintertux? Heard there is not much to the place and was thinking of heading over for the October Bank Holiday weekend! Is Mayrhofen a good distance?

    Woohoo the season begins:D

It is 40 minutes by bus to Hintertux with buses running frequently from 7.00 am and last bus returning from Hintertux at about 5.30 or 6.00 from base stattion - make sure to check. The fare is about € 9.00 returm though if you are carrying ski gear - iI usually keep my ski boots on and carry ski poles- you will ptobably get carried free.
The main bus stop is directly by the train station where you exit the jenbach train. Mayrhoffen is biggest town in area but at that time of year many of the Hotels, pubs may be closed so it cam be quit around Oct early Nov. Other alternatives are staying at any of the villages along the route up to Hintertux - I have stayed several times in Lanersbach - but again it will be quiet there also. However snow can be very good at the at time.

Stubai is no where near as good or as big as Hintertux.

Dont want to be captain Buzz Kill but remember it is only the end of September that Snow could be gone in a week.

Then again there could be another 6 feet of it by next saturday :D

Was in Stubia last week - very disappointing as there was only one red open and the rest were blues = plenty snow though.
Hintertux had plently snow also but in Mon weather on top was os bad that the international ski teams were heading down at about 9.30 am. That is one of the dangers with Hintertux at this time of year - the weather on the upper slopes may be too severe to ski amd the lower slope may not be open. Mon saw quite a lot of rain which extended up the mpuntain.
