Killeen Castle App

Just a quick note for you techno golfers, that our new app for Killeen Castle is up and running.

This latest version of our app has taken a huge step forward and no offers many extras to that of Carton and Roganstown. We have been in development for the past 6 months.

The big change to this app is the addition to what we are calling our E-Caddy, I guess it is similar approach to Golfshot but without (for now) their bells and whistles and as always the app is free to download.

    The E-Caddy has;
    · Interactive scoring, with full handicap calculation for stableford points.
    · Multiple Players.
    · Report scores via Facebook, twitter and email
    · Yardage Guide
    · Our next generation 3D Flybys
    · Pro tips
    · GPS Measuring, this is set to our survey of the course but it also has a "My Position" option so in theory you can use it on any course.
    · Saved round history (we are working on a stat collection system now)
All the old stuff like directions, weather etc is still there along with booking.

The next release will also have food ordering for the turn built in.

I am happy to say that the new app has been very well received; our 1st launch for a course in Holland had 3000 users in less than 5 days!!

Of course the app cannot be used in competition but that was never its aim, the idea is for the golf club to interact with its guests and to offer the golf tourist a useful tool on and off the course.

Our other big news is our new collaboration with 3D Eagleview, most of you will know them as the creator of what is probably the best course guide on the market. 3D Eagleview will soon become our exclusive distributor for Ireland, The UK, Spain and Portugal.

I hope the mods don’t mind the little plug (we make no money from the app downloads) and if any of you think that your clubs may want to look at doing an app, we are always open for discussion.

BTW, although we have been through a big beta test if anyone is having any difficulties or has some good ideas for additions, please just send me a PM.

Lastly, we will be looking to add to the team over the next 6 months, 1 person in November and hopefully another in March, if you are looking to get into the golf industry and have a flare for graphics please send on a CV.

    Take care and happy Golfing

    J

Must take a look - how much is it for user download from the App Store ?

This is pretty interesting, I had actually been planning on developing an app for golfers to use! It had been bouncing about in my head since this time last year. I only seriously started looking at it earlier this year and started looking at what the options for functionality were. I had naively started doing some coding when I realized I needed to do some more research into the market and see what else was out their. The idea soon came to a grinding halt when I realized after a bit of research what was out their and the functionality that would be need to make it completive or even just usable. The work needed to do it was way beyond me TBH. All the bits that made it too difficult for me you seem to have included (and some more!). Sounds awesome TBH.

I will definitely be downloading it for a look anyway. One thing I would say is the stats system is extreemly important, its the thing thats going to get the average golfer to pull their phone out on every round and use your app. The GPS is obviously pretty important too.

All in all it looks like you have one of the best on the market TBH, get it out their..! ;)

The App is free, as are all our client apps.

Thanks , its not there yet but its getting there.

I can tell you that the development has not been easy and certainly expensive.

The stats are almost done, its really just a matter of functionalilty and how best to add it to the interface. We have the usaul like FIR, GIR, putts, club distance etc and have a nice little distance calculator, which will tell you how far you have walked and calories burned, not sure if that is a bit to gimmicky.

Doing a golf app is tricky as being a very tradionalists sport it is hard to get the balance right.

Well done, its a step above the Carton app, the flyby is much improved as it quit very soon after reaching the green. Like the green view. A couple of suggestions

    - Reduce the 'white' above the green view, it takes up have the screen
    - An ability to slant the flyby's, if that makes sense

    Thanks for the kind words

The green images are taken form their new yardage guides, I guess with a little more time we could have optimised them better for the app. Will do for the next version

The client has the option to choose the camera angle they want, but there is no way for the app to do it natively, there would not be any where near enough processing resource to do that. But it would be cool to be able to fly around where ever you want. We can do it on the PC ok

Downloaded yesterday, green view and hole fly by just keep crashing when selected???

I have not seen that happen before and the App has been fully tested. what OS have you got running? The flybys are stored externally until they are downloaded then they are saved with in the app, so you will need a good 3g or wifi connection to play them (only once as they are then in the phone)

There is an update with new flybys and a small change to the Facebook api, when that is released let me know how it works and I will try to help you out.
