Jesus that's insane! 1hr 30 mins to go a few miles. I'm going living in Sutton and i'd say after hearing this I'll definitely be driving!

When theres traffic it takes forever to get across the city.
and busses take a long time to get anywhere. If you can drive maybe look into setting up a car pool with some people? you could split fuel costs

Cycle. Its only 5-7kms. Thats a very relaxed 20minute cycle, barely break a sweat

Depending on where you live in Killester, it's could be less a 4km cycle. If it's around that, it could take less than 20mins at first, but once you get used to it you could be doing it in around 15mins or less. And 20mins is conservative, at the average speed of cyclists in the city its should take 16mins.

It's straight across Collins Avenue until you hit DCU -- as shown on Google Maps here.

It's really quite a short cycle.

You'd be surprised how enjoyable cycling is, I got some non-cycling friends on far busier roads recently and they loved it once they got the hang of it, which was in no time at all. Just take it easy but aware of what's going on around you. If you need any advice the posters over on boards.ie's cycling board are a good bunch.

Walking would take less than an hour and a half. From donneycarney it takes about 40 minutes.

Your best option is cycling though.

Cycling is definitely a good idea, shame we don't live in a warmer country!! I know you can get waterproofs and all that but you still have that cold feeling all day! Think i'll drive and maybe when the weather gets nicer (never), i'll cycle ;)

I leave Portlaoise with bus eireann anytime from 7 to 7-20 and am on o'connell st 8-20 -8.30, then get 4, 9, 11 ,13(Ithink) bus to DCU For 9

so 1hour 30 mins or so al in all.

Dublin has less rain than both Copenhagen and Amsterdam where up to 40% commuters within both cities cycle. And, in any case, the chances of getting wet is very low.

All that most people cycling require is a normal jacket, not full waterproofs.

But, yeah, sure have fun with the traffic, the parking and the rising cost of fuel. :)
