Pumped Sewage system

Any opinions on pumped sewage systems please.

We have to adjust our site boundaries for planning and we are now moving the treament plant down the hill allowing the raw sewage to flow by gravity. It will then need to be pumped up hill to the perculation area. This all seems OK as removes the need to install macerating pump.

Now chooseing new area for treament plant:-
Option 1 is about 8 m from the house. Its is about 30 m from perc area with a pump uphill of 1m.
Option 2 is about 15 m from the house but about 45 m from perc area with 2m of rise.

Option 1 leaves more to alternatives to hide with bushes etc around the TP and farther from house. Is the extra distace and rise going to make much difference?

It's difficult to advice without seeing your site. But all things being equal I will have a go.
You should have had a site assessor access your site for planning. If not it would be wise to employ one. You will find list of Assessors on county council Web-Site. If not already done.

    1. The Gravity option is the way to go.
    2. Their is no difficulty with pumping to a 2m head, also distance fine.
    3. With new Registration Scheme be very careful with percolation area location, conform to (EPA 2009 Manual) distance from boundary requirements.
You just can,t locate percolation area in any part of site. Any proposed area needs to be tested by approved Site Assessor. Be careful with the option you choose. Site Assessor will or should map in location for planning. Also be careful with Treatment Plant location as you need to allow for servicing, emptying. Planting around TP is the way to go but remember to allow for pipes to cross lawn for emptying. Or better still locate if practical close to kerb line. You should locate a water tap next to TP for washing down pump/TP when servicing.

    PaleRider, thanks for the input.
We had a site assessor and percolation holes dug and tested and are OK. Perc area mapped by assessor etc. Failed planning on couple of minor issues related to this and are reapplying.

Will be double checking site boundary distances as this was one issue high-lighted.

Servicing and emptying need to be considered too I suppose.

I just want to inform myself before speaking to architect or assessor and making decision.

We have a two year old system in.. The discharge is pumped out of most of these new systems anyway.. I think I remember that ours would pump to about 10m but not sure

Technically you would do well to contact the supplier and they will tell you about pumping head heights and distances.. I couldn't see a 2m head being any problem but check anyway...

Also a quick call to a certified sludge company will let you know what distances they can access tanks at for emptying.. this is probably a bigger deal than the pumping of the discharge from the system..
