What would it take to have an A380 land in Dublin apart from an emergency?
Is 28 long enough? What other factors would there be?

    strange question to ask.

im sure if it was a big enough emergancy the pilot could land it anywhere.

I was just asking cause I'd love to have bigger/newer planes landing in Dublin. Even a few 747's :-) I would love to take photos of them

74's have used dublin in the past.

and i think there is one of the 74 freighters who continue to use it.

Air France use EIDW most Fridays/Saturdays. I've seen the 744F on several occasions. It usually lands and then takes off a couple of hours later. It's normally a US to CDG flight that stops off in EIDW for some reason.

Biggest prob would be taxiways and time needed to clear runway. Also the 380's need a special airbridge. The aircraft was designed to operate from a small number of hubs which have all catered specifacally for it.
DUB, like most major airports can take one in but this dosent mean the airport is geared to facilitate it properly.

The A380 uses less runway than the B747, and has considerably slower landing speeds. So it would have no problem operating on the runway.

The rest of the Airport Infrastructure may cause a few issues.

You must also remember that the strenght of the runway and/or taxiways needs to be taken into account. From what I've read, one could land in Dublin but it could never take off with a full passanger and fuel load.

That is a runway length issue, the same applies with the B777 and the B744.

The A380 was specifically designed to remain within the airfield design limits set down in the mid 70's after the arrival of the B747. Thus is has a wingspan less than 80metres. Also I believe that as it has more tires than a B747 the weight of the larger aircraft is distributed evenly over a larger area.

The B747 impacted airfield design massively after launch and Airbus didn't want something like this to impact on the sellability of the A380.

Of course if an A380 diverted into the DUB it would be handled differently. The major hubs deliberately redesigned certain things (jetbridges) so the turnaround of the aircraft would not be significantly more than a B777/B747/A330. So you have gates which have up to 3 jetbridges to allow speedy boarding.

In DUB the bus transfer from the West Apron may take a while.
