I have come to the conclusion that Apple are good at making IPhones Ipods etc but are absolutly useless when it comes to any sort of cable. I have gone through two data cables and two sets of headphones in six months and another one is on the way out.

Just wondering is there any sort of superior spurious data cable replacement availible?

I have since chosen Shure in ear Headphones.

what are youi doing to them?? seriously though, my iphone headphones went through the wash and survived, my iphone cable is 18 months old and still grand, my ipod touch cable is approx 3 years old and frayed but working.

they dont get abused, but they dont get babied either.

I have gone through 2 usb cables, they tend to have the white insulation separate near the dock connector, and eventually start to split along the length. I regularly go through headphones. I have 4 pairs here from various phones. When one breaks (And always the same way, earphone coming apart), I send it off under warranty and take the next one in the queue.

Mine same way, split at insulation and exposes wires which eventually short / break.

I have a pair of Sony Ericsson earphones that have lasted well over two years. Apple headphones tend to break at insulation joints especially around switch. Ipod phones don't have this switch, I asked could they do these headphones as a replacement for the other ones and they refused. Their loss as they will be going back again.

I've found that nearly any pair of €20 earbuds is better than what comes with most devices.

I've replaced a few data cables over the years, and have found the spurious €2 ones from eBay are no less durable.

Depending on your set-up, maybe some sort of cheap docking station might work? You just plug the phone into the cradle rather than plugging the wire into the phone.

Yeah I used to have this issue with the data cables but have just started using a bit of duct tale at the places where it usually breaks. This makes those points stiffer.

I find Sony MDR-J10L superior to other headphones in that class, particularly Apples which are pretty crap to start with.
Have bought but not yet received the Nokia BH-503 bluetooth so that'll take care of headphone cables :D

I had Bluetooth earphones, but got fed up having yet another thing to charge!

I find the cheap eBay cables are useless for charging and take a lot longer than the official apple one.

However I went looking for an extended cable going back as the iPhone one was too short and annoying and I ordered this Griffin one. I find it a lot better than the apple one. Really thick and sturdy and it charges the iPhone to 100% alot faster than the official apple one does. Only thing is it's a bit too long sometimes and looks messy. I'm happy with it though and I'd recommend it highly.
