    I was talking to the company that are putting up my timber frame and he raised some intresting things

    I am going with geothremal heating.
    Putting underfloor heading on both group floor and 1st floor
    Having a HVAC systems as well.
    Having the 400mm rockwool in attic
    cant remember what else(thing U value of external wall will be something like .2)
    House is going to have max 2 air changes per hour.

    Point 1.
    Madness to have underfloor in the 1st floor.
    Point 2.
    Should go with ECO joists. Easier for Plumming, lights, HVAC etc
    Point 3.
    Get triple glazing all over.

    Piont 1 -> Save about 5-7k
    Point 2 -> Spend extra 1350
    Point 3 -> Spend extra ???

    We are tight with the money so it might be an idea to only go with underground heating on ground and nothing for 1st floor. He said that it was over kill with what we are doing with the house to have underground heating on the 1st floor. he was saying the HVAC will be able to keep the 1st floor hot enough to live in.
    SO on rads or underfloor on the 1st floor.
    Can i get your ideas on this.

    point 1:
    will he guarantee an air tightness test result of X in order for the HRV to be significantly efficient to supercede the 1st floor heating system?
    If you are building to that level, why not get a costing for a small electrical element in the HRV system to supplement the heating on the 1st floor... just in case....

    point 2:
    easier for whom?
    the only way to say if this is efficient is if your trades prices will give you sufficient discount to exceed this extra €1350. ask your trades to price for solid joists versus eco joists. You may find the biggest discount is with the HRV company.

    point 3:
    quotes between double glazing and triple glazing are getting closer all the time. Personally, if budget can allow, id be willing to spend up to 10% extra on 0.9 u value or better TG compared to 1.2 u value DG or worse.
