    Hey All

First ever half marathon on sat, looking forward to it. Anyway i've done a good few new things this year, Triathlons, duathlons, aquatlons and first ever run races. New to them all.

I see people talking about resting up for a few weeks, is this advisebale for myself? At the moment im swimming three times a week, running maybe 40 k - 50 kand then playing squash once. Should i rest up on the running?

I have a training programme starting end of Novemebr for the connemara marathon, should i wait and rest a week before that new programme?

Also if i continue running from now until the new training programme begins should i take my mileage down? the Hal Halogen has the first few weeks as 24-26 k a week?

    Thanks all

Depends on whether your prone to obsessing about it all and the consequent mental burnout. If you're not then I'd take two weeks after the half where you run whenever you feel like it and then I'd spend the time up until your training starts running predominantly easy pace whilst gradually building up the distance that you cover.

Also find a tougher marathon plan. If you're currently running 40 - 50k and swimming 3 times per week I suspect that a plan starting 24 - 26k a week won't be challenging enough for you. Many of us have found Advanced Marathoning to provide pretty good guidance. They have a plan starting at 53k and peaking at 88k over 18 weeks (they also have a 12 week plan but the 18 week plan gives better results).
