Recommendations on Laptop

I am looking to upgrade my laptop. I have an old Sony VAIO laptop whose battery doesn't last more than 40 mins and is getting a bit slow. I am looking for a laptop for the usual web browsing, but also for doing a reasonable amount of photo editing with Adobe Elements 9. I was looking at the Dell website and they have an XPS15 with i5 for €799 or XPS with i7 for €879. Is the step up to the i7 version worth it? Are there other laptops out there for approx €800 that are better value?

I should have added - I have a large monitor that I use for doing photo editing so the 15" screen size is fine for my needs.
