for those going to the game on Sunday there'll be a collection both inside and outside the stadium to help the family with the gigantic medical costs they are facing.

surely he wont have to face any medical bills, the club would have insurance and he can sue if they dont for damages???

Who does he sue, nobody has been charged with the crime. His family are there so they will have a lot of costs as well. Made my donation there, hopefully others so as well, even five euro, the price of a pint won't hurt people.

    Hello patrick

I spoke to one of the lads collecting at the hurling final and from my understanding it is all up in the air as they hadn't determined culpability. I see since that someone was taken in and released so I presume this is still the case. As the collector commented "100 people there and no-one saw a thing"

Hope all give generously again on Sunday - a first for the GAA in allowing collections inside the stadium and are donating cask collection duties etc

There was 50 peope there and the ball was down the other end of the field. I don't think it's beyond the realsm of possibility that 50 people were looking at where the ball was. Who looks down the other end of the field from where the ball is?

thats true, and seeing something in the corner of your eye is not really enough to be able to goto court and act as a witness.

Not that the GAA in the states being full of Illegal Immigrants be a factor in nobody wanting to be entangled with a police investigation.

I'll be throwing a fiver in the bucket on sunday giving them the benefit of the doubt, but it would be nice to know why theres a need for a collection.
Was his insurance inadequate or was he uninsured?
Is the clubs insurance inadequate, or are they uninsured for covering player injuries?
EDIT: Gaelic Games are exotic and unknown abroad and in Germany for example we cant get any insurance quotes for Hurling and football except at stupid prices - so it would be understandable if this is also the case in the USA.

I play ball abroad myself and the whole insurance issue is a minefield.
As a MINIMUM every player should have their own health insurance should they get hurt so this class of messing never happens again.
And if not then they should not be let on a pitch for their own safety.

He was there on a holiday visa so I would gather insurance for competitive sports would be hard to get. He shouldn't have been on the field really, but it's his own choice.

maybe I'm being overly cynical, but I'd prefer O'Neills to be saying all proceeds other than manufacturing costs going to the fund. that could well be the case, but it just doesnt read well with me if I thought a company was making a profit from a fund raising.

maybe I'm just overly cranky today. I saw some report recently on him and he was up and about and moving well. great to see. hopefully there is no financial problems with him in the long term over it all.

I thought the same myself to be perfectly honest but I'm delighted to see something being done by them, it's better than nothing I suppose:)
