Someone was watching out for me this morning!

Had to stop to get diesel this morning as my fuel guage was beeping pretty angrily at me. So I pull into the Esso garage in Maynooth for a quick "splash and dash". All of the pumping stations were busy bar one so I drive up to that one, get out of the car, open the flap, put the nossel(?) in, have my hand on the pump handle ready to start fueling when I notice that the price per litre on the display is €1.51. WTF, that's pricey I thought, until I looked down to see a green hose leading back to the pump station where it says "Unleaded" on all three hoses:eek:. No wonder this pump station was free as all the other vehicles on the forecourt were diesel engined as far as I could see.

Jeez that was a lucky escape I thought to myself as I sheepishly put the petrol nossel back and waited for a diesel pump to free up. While waiting I noticed that of the 8 pumping stations (with three pumps apiece, i.e. 24 pumps), just 7 are diesel. With the big switch over to diesel fueled cars, I would have thought there'd be a more even spread of pumps between petrol and diesel? I'm not making excuses though as I nearly joined the ranks of those who have put the wrong fuel into their car. Guess I'll be keeping my mouth shut in future when I hear stories about how someone did just that. Very easy thing to do when you're half asleep and driving your first diesel car after driving petrol fueled cars for 24 years:o
