I think it is a set back for privacy in this country but I think the necessity for a database of this type far outweighs that set back.
    The needs of the many...
The source of information for the new figures will be the Revenue Commissioners, which gets its information from individual solicitors for purchasers. Even transactions within families are included.

Now that could make for some very interesting reading in the future.

I think it's more a secrecy issue than a privacy issue. I'm not sure what's protected by keeping it private.

    Y'know good old Ireland...
Family fueds resulting in people knowing various transactions between members.
Not wanting your neightbours to know your business.
    All sorts of crap.
But as I said a transparent property database trumps all that stuff.

Frankly, I think that sort of information out in the open can only be a godo thing. A good family feud adds some drama to the neighbourhood, and I want to see how much the various bankers think their houses are worth when their kids buy them.

About feckin time. Fair play to Alan Shatter.
Sale price, address and sale date is all thats needed. No need for personal info on who bought what yadda yadda.

This is BADLY needed. Whats also needed is a documented system for bids. There was far too much BS from RA's back in the boom along the lines of "well so and so bid 15K more than you are offering so you need to up your bid".

I've been impressed with Shatter so far, he's also sorted out the mess in citizenship applications.

Although the bar was fairly low with FF in charge, they handed out ministerial positions like confetti.

It needs to include slightly more information, e.g. folio number, bid history, area of plot, area of buildings, is it a transaction between related parties?
