Anyone else get caught by the spillage Southbound after Firhouse this morning?

3 cowboys in a flat back hiace with a large vat of god knows what (Tar/bitumen?) spilled half it all over the M50. There they were then parked up trying to clear it up..... by shoveling stones and debris from the edge of the hard shoulder all over the road

They were trying to wave drivers on to driving over the stuff! "There ya go, go on, it's grand shure.. drive over there now thanks..". WTF.. **** Off!!

Anyone know how to get a spillage cleaned up properly? Will NRA send someone out? It apparently caused the M50 to get backed up to the N7 or further..

    Any prosecutions likely? Me swiss.

I hope the individuals that caused this chaos and mess get their wholes kicked over this as in a big fine.

Just heard on the radio that that stretch of the M50 will close so it can be cleaned.

It was a ****ing disaster this morning. Crawled for the best part of 30 minutes as the three lanes converged into the one lane that WASN'T ruined and being cleaned.

    ****ing morons.

It looked like the container had leaked all over the back of the van, the wheels were covered in tar/bitumen. I'd hope they are prosecuted, it could have caused a very nasty accident.

I hope the guys responsible get fined and the fine is very very hefty, absolutely ridiculous this morning as i had to go past it all and was stuck for 2 hrs. There were also a few folks whose cars couldnt take the pressue of stop start and quite a number were on the hard shoulder.

I'd say theres quite a few people driving around that didnt even know the big flap on the front of the car opened and coolant is running at or below minimum but may never sit in heavy enough traffic to cause a big problem. Anyway, sure wont the man make sure everything is ok in a year or so when the car gets serviced and nct'd in the same week and never looked at till the next go round.

Unless the car already had an overheating problem I haven't seen this happen to a (modern) car stuck in traffic in a long, long time, nevermind multiple cars.

    Shenanigans methinks!;)

The only car it happened me in was an Austin Maxi and I was coming off the M50. In fairness it was in crawling traffic for about 90 minutes so I was waiting for it

Ha was crazy there was an 01 nissan almera i believe sitting in the service vehicle bay with oil spilling out from under the car (big pool visible), the other cars didnt look as bad but i saw some guy walking up the otherside of the road (near the barrier) having a smoke like nothing was happening.

Not sure if the shenanigans in your next post is aimed at me but it was true there were 3-4 cars in the hardshoulder.

Are you saying these 3/4 cars where sitting in the hard shoulder broken down as a direct result from sitting in traffic?

Well in the context of newer cars having regular enough NCT, better tech ect i thought it was quite a number. it would be rare enough you would see so many breakdowns on the M50 in close proximity.

anyway whats the problem? you looking for a discussion or debate about it?

I don't have one - you were insinuating in your first post on this subject that there was a number of vehicles broken down due to the jam. I don't think that was the case TBH, more likely a coincidence.

Anyhow, we've dragged this thread off topic too much.

Anyway back to the ****ers. I hope their hiace is wrecked or whatever the **** it was. I got by it at about 10.55 and just passed it there was a renault Fluence and an audi A5 pulled in. Two fairly pissed off looking lads standing beside their cars. I wonder did they wade through the tar?

Fooking hate it getting caught out during M50 mega-snarlups just after having had a jug of coffee to get going...

Saw a number of 0x-reg cars stopped up, bonnet open and steaming due to the crawl traffic in to the Bray Airshow earlier this year. Poorly maintained cars can still overheat in stop-start traffic.

They were all Japanese actually, suspect a lot of the Irish psychosis that Japanese cars are reliable-by-default and don't need any work done comes back to bite people.

I drove over it today and while it does look like a poor effort, I'd hope that after a few decent rain showers the brown shít will disappear. Then we'll see how much tar remains................
