We've been drip fed bad news for the last few years.

No end in sight.... Or is there?

What's the medium to long term view?

We're like someone walking a long tightrope. If all goes well, we will slowly and painfully recover. If we make a mistake, things go badly very quickly.

Because the Western world is working off the excesses of a multi decade debt bubble, this will take a long time. We also have the impact of globalisation, which will see a leveling of living standards across the globe, which means that people in the West will probably never feel as "rich" as they felt for the past half century. Kids will have to work hard and get a good degree because they will be competing with students in China and elsewhere, pumping out graduates with arts and media degrees will get us nowhere.
