i have a stanly cooker range currently running on oil which im thinking of changing to solid fuel, can this be done easy enough? what type of work has to be done etc

the reason im looking to change is with the amount of oil been going through the last couple years and now have access to load free timber and turf...

are they as efficent when using solid fuel does anyone know?

Was the stanley originally solid fuel?

If it was remove oil burner etc fit new multifuel grate. Thats about it I suppose?

Yes they can be efficient but you have to have a really good fire going to get the rads as hot from cold. I think coal and wood mix would work best, especially as they were more designed for coal use than wood. Firebox is rather small.

What model is it and have you a photo?

Hi, im not sure if it was solid fuel ever to be honest if it wasnt would that be a problem?

its a stanley deluxe 90 dont have a photo can try get one on tomorrow...im trying to decide wether to convert the range to solid fuel or put in a boiler stove???

any suggestions on a stove to heat 10 rads? it would be going in the sitting room and then prob disconnect the range altogether as i dont think its very efficent with the oil

    Hi,

I would need a picture with the doors open and closed to compare with the oil and solid fuel version. It would be much cheaper to convert the stanley if it's possible. You could email stanley.

Although if this cooker is quite old about 15-20 years old it may be past it's best. If it is very old you may be better to replace, as you say with a boiler stove. Is your stanley back to back with the living room fireplace? If it is it would make plumbing in easy:).
As regards a stove to run rads I would need to know the total output of the rads:) What size is your living room?
