    hello. can anyone give me advice on what a dad can claim for a baby in the run up to the due date
    bit of info - my fiance doesnt work but isnt interested in claiming anything she is entitled to because her parents have helped us out a lot
    can i claim in her place?

    im sadly unemployed too

    You cannot claim anything until the baby is born. Then you can apply for an increase for a dependent child on you payment. The full payment is €29 but I think each claimant only gets half this.

    To egt this you must bring in the childs birth cert to the SW office. I'm not sure if you have to be living with the child.

    A further question, if you are unemployed and not eligible for JSA or JSB can you claim maternity?

    No you have to be employed to claim maternity, or have very recently lost your job.
