Zanussi zwf1421 won't spin

Just thought i'd share this one with you....

My 5 year old Zanussi zwf1421 washing machine had been playing up recently in that it would not complete the final spin and the clothes were coming out soaking wet and sometimes the machine would not drain. When I reduced the spin down from 1400 rpm this stopped the issue and the machine worked away fine until last weekend when the problem re-appeared. No matter what I did the machine would not drain normally or complete it's final spin. I had to manually drain it.

I got hold of the service manual for the machine and ran the diagnostics programme. This gave me an error code of E23 which told me that there was a problem with the pump or the circuit board was faulty. I checked the pump filter on the front but it was clear. I turned the machine over (unplugged first of course) and disconnected the pipe from the drum to the pump to check for blockages - but all was clear again. I was stumped and thought that a new pump was the way forward but then again I did not want to spend €100 on a new pump and the machine would still not work.

At that stage I just said to myself that whilst I had the machine on it's side that I'd check the motor brushes. Low and behold they were down to the last! I had a fair idea that this was the problem. I bought a new set of brushes (€60 a pair which I thought pricey for a set of brushes but anywho...) and fitted them. I ran the machine and bingo, the machine nearly took off on the final spin and clothes came out the normal dampness you'd expect.

I was delighted with this as it saved me a call out fee for a service techician or the possibility of having to buy a new machine. Hope this is useful to someone else...

going rate to change a set of brushes is €75 -supply and fit (most independants )
    who charged you €60 ?

I got them supply only from an independant West Dublin Washing Machine Repair shop. Do you reckon I was ripped off? When I checked online they were costing £50 sterling from a few UK websites.
