I got offered this job, and had induction monday for 5 hours with my new colleagues. I signed like 3 different forms, gave identification and also bank details. Its a new shop that wont be opening till another 2 weeks and a half. They have employed about 30 people in total.

The trainer told us the main woman would be on to us at the end of the week. I even got told my contact hours from the trainer, but im scared incase i actually dont have the job:(

What do ye guys think? Do i definitely have the job and will they ring me when they are supposed to?

    Cheers!

Was one of the forms you signed a 'contract'? -

Anyway I'd say yes you have that job.

Okay dont mean to be stupid but what does the contract actually say?! Like the trainer kept all the papers, we walked away empty handed.

Where is the job as a side note? :)

Also, it looks like you've gotten it. Fair play to you!

Thanks!! I dont want to be giving names of where it is or peoples names this and that, but i turned down 2 other jobs for this as i thought i ' had signed a contract'

i'd feel sick if i didnt get it:(

Well was one of the forms you signed talking about - pay, leaving notice, holidays?

can you actually remember what was on the papers you did sign?

I'd say everybody is very busy with the new shop and all so thats why they havent got back to you.

You could always ring them and ask whats happening?

Did they metion anything about when you'll be paid for those 5 hours worked?

    Thanks orange,

I think they asked about holidays but im not sure, the froms asked what our rate of pay was, what days of the week we can work.

Yeah the trainer said we will get paid not this friday but next friday!

You have got the job by the sounds of it, signing papers and induction day. Also the fact you got your hours for next week.

Wouldn't get too worried best of luck with the new job.

Is this a job for Tesco by any chance? If so, I work for them. And after going threw the stages you have gone threw then you will be getting a call like you said tomorrow, about your hours for next week.

If there is no call by 3PM tomorrow give the store a call, as the managers will all be in by 1PM .

The week starts on a Sunday if it is Tesco so don't make any plans you could be in for a shift.

This sounds odd, at the very best unprofessional. Did you read what you signed? There should have been a document outlining rules, remuneration, holiday entitlement, etc. You would have been given 2 signed copies of this document, signed them both, given one back and kept the other. You should contact the HR person responsible and ask for a copy.

Yeah i read most of what i signed. Yeah i got no form back, i dont think any of the people got it back either. My sister was like that sounds wierd as she walked away from her job induction 3 years ago with a copy of the form she has signed.

The shop has not opened yet, and i honestly dont know who to contact really!!

Did you go for an interview a few weeks ago?

Then did they ring you back to say they would like to offer you the job and to come in for an induction day?

At the induction day they spoke to you about what you would be doing ie. tills or stockroom?

Also at the induction day did they talk to you about holidays, pay, etc?

Also you said they'll contact you friday? is that not tomorrow?

If it was last friday i'd give them a call -

All in all if all these things happened I'd say you got the job.

Hi Orange, yeah i had the interview 2 weeks on this wednesday coming, the trainer said the hr manager would contact us friday more than likely,They spoke to us all about rate of pay and what we would be doing.

Im just wondering if they dont ring, should i ring them tomorrow? or is it unacceptable for me to do this?

    Hmmmm interesting!

Was there many at the induction?

Worst comes to the worst you have 5 hours pay!

Also if they dont ring you then theres nothing wrong with ringing them to find out whats happening - they're only people at the end of the day so they'd understand that you want to find out whats happening.

Ring them back Monday. If they don't give a definite answer, ring the other two places back.

As the saying goes; "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". You not getting a copy of the contract sounds VERY DODGY, as they could change something (amount of hours, amount of pay, etc) and say you signed the contract agreeing to those terms...!

Thanks!! But its a new shop opening and no one has a number for them, bar an email address!!

I dont want to ring the other 2 places up because i felt awful turning them down in the first place

I really need a job and i have the worst luck ever:(

I just hope i hear something from them in the next couple of days

a word to the wise, next time do not sign anything till you read it and understand it, you never know what you might be getting yourself into

im scared, whats the worst thing, REALISTICALLY, that could have been on the form?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 720 ✭✭✭DrGreenthumb

you never know, these days identity theft and that are all the rage, it wasn't some eastern europeans who were running the show?

but in reality it probably nothing but you should always read it and question anything that your not sure about.

did you have to provide them a p45 and any info like pps numbers?

You should have at least some kind of contact number, right?

I know exactly how you feel right now. For me I just got verification on the phone and a quick email telling me when I start. Didn't hear anything after that for 2 weeks but definitely had the job.

    I think you'll be fine....

Folks, play nicely. I've edited the last couple of posts, following some reports. No warning 'cos I'm in a good mood ... that may change if you take up my lunchtime again!

OP, no need for insulting language.

Syco, the OP sounds young-ish: may not realise just how much can be found out from an email, and that you were trying to help her. So while I can appreciate your humour, am guessing she might not.

Over to you two if you want to continue the disucssion, but please keep it civil.

Aye. Corklassy: from an email I may be able to get a phone number, from a number I'll probably get other forums, from the other forums I may be able to find out if other people know if the job exists, when it starts, etc.
