Just as he was getting back to a bit of Rugby. Feel for the guy.

That must be the end of him now i think. Time to hang up the boots.
A very sad end to a fantastic career and a great servant to Irish rugby

If it is only 4-6 weeks, then he's not done yet. He should take his time and get fit for Munster's HC campaign. From an Irish perspective, however, it's probably best to look elsewhere at this stage.

    Great servant to Irish Rugby.

It's a four to six week injury not a career ending injury. He may yet come right again. An awful shame, our most dynamic hooker by a long way.

Devastated for him. Good luck with the recovery and hopefully he'll be back even stronger.

A third calf injury in the space of what twelve months though, now I don't know if it is the same leg as previous injuries, but if it is so you would have to be concerned about his future posepects. :(

I see what you have done there nice pun

Have to feel sorry for the guy, if it is the same leg as before then you would really have to think it would be mentally hard for anybody to push to 100% again with the "what if" thoughts going on in his head incase he injures it again.

Yeah I'd say that's the end of him, sad to see, great servant for both Ireland and Munster.

So Kidney brings in Varley who is 2nd choice at Munster behind Sherry. Experience seems to be more important to him than form especially when he's continuously picking O'Callaghan and D'Arcy.

Poor guy - that's terrible luck.

Shame this. Agree with above it's probably time to call it a day on his Ireland Career so that, depending on the extent of this injury, he still get's a couple more seasons of rugby with Munster.

Very bad news, especially when it comes to our lineouts, we are more than underdogs now against the aussies, we need an unbelievable performance to get a result in that game

He's had continous problems with both calfs for over a year now. Each time he was only supposed to be out for a few weeks. He played twice for Munster last season and broke down again each time. The operation he had at the end of last season was supposed to finally resolve the issue, but now he's broken down again. If turns out to be longer than 4 - 6 weeks or he breaks down again I think he'd be better off retiring.

Very sad news for Fla. He really needs a bit of luck

Very unlucky to be honest. I just hope we don't lose Best now or we're serious trouble.

Ah no! Gutted for him, and we're very very thin along the front row now.

Same calf as the op, that's shocking bad luck.

Devastating for Fla. Mike Sherry should be packing his bags, not Damien Varley. Conservatism again, what's new? (except in the case of Murray)

I don't get this. Varley had a good end of season and season in general last year. He was the starting hooker for Munster in most of their bigger games in the Magners i.e. Magners Final and Semi, home to Leinster, away to Brive, away to Ospreys and the game against the Aussies. Mike Sherry was very much his understudy. Even this season he was first choice in the harder of the two games Munster have played i.e. away to Glasgow.

This is bad news for Ireland and terrible news for Flannery. I really hope he can get it sorted now.

Let's put a positive spin on that and hope Best stays fit and in form so that won't matter.

Sad news for him, do hope he stays at it, I think he has a lot to offer if not with Ireland then with Munster.

Best seems to be playing well so let's hope that continues.

I was under the impression Sherry was ahead of Varley from pre season and then starting the first game? Varley isn't a bad player by any means, just really rate Sherry and some of the coaching selections drive me mad! This one less so, however.

Suspect Varley was called up since he would have been involved in training camps and have familiarity with the calls etc.

It's only recently that Sherry has overtaken Varley at Munster. Tough to just draft him in clean now..

Very unfortunate for Flannery, was surprised that he was included in the squad in the first place and felt Varley deserved a spot more. I was very impressed with him last season, his throwing can blow hot and cold(though not much worse than Best) but he's the most aggressive hooker in the country and I think thats something we desperately need at the moment, his breakdown work is excellent too. I hope he gets an opportunity in one of the games and surprises a few people.

Gutted for Fla, I can only guess how hard he wroked at getting fit for this W/C and he only to get past the first game, he must be heart broken.

Best of Luck Fla and hopefully, we'l see in and Irish, Munster and Shannon jersey again.

Definitely. You don't need to teach someone new lineout calls and stuff at this late stage

Shouldnt be sent home, sure if its only 5 weeks or so he'll be back for the final. :)

Poor old Fla. Class player but his calves must be made up mostly of scar tissue at this stage. Hard to see him coming back after this one.
