As requested by some boardsies last year, we will try to ensure that the results are posted online, in the days after the races.

I see on Run ireland there is a half marathon here on 09th Oct, says its the 27th annual one so assume it's well known. Anyone here done it before, what kind of numbers do they get?

Not too far from Longford town so wouldnt take too long to get to from Dublin.

Might be one for the battle-hardened - they get about 60 or 70 every year - winning times have been competitive - seem to remember times in the region of 1:15 (not bad considering the low numbers). No prizes.

The course is a good tester - 2 or 3 hills to put manners on you from 5 - 8 miles (approximate) - then fairly flat after that.

I would warn that in my opinion regardless of your time/ability you will probably run this all on your own.

Water at the water stations can be a bit sparse - it is of the 1/8 filled paper cup variety.

Still nice buns, sandwiches, tea/coffee afterwards + showers in the GAA club.

For the price - not bad value! Doesn't promise sun, moon, and stars - but gets you a 1/2 marathon at a nice time before Dublin!

Seem to remember seeing pictures on the race website last year - I think

I did it last year- 2nd Half ever- knocked 7 min off my Dublin Half time from a few weeks previous to finish it in 1.50.12
    Aimann also did it

Course is "country" roads, 2 short bits along the main N5 and then off into the back roads.
One savage hill around 6 and a few other rolls- think there was a decent one around 3 or 4 as well.
Small field- 100 or so, I ran by myself for all of it apart from the first mile. People pass you and then you pass them again. THe only event that I ever "raced" anyone as I was trying to catch a guy for the last few miles.
Water stations are not very plentiful, mainly a table outside a kindly locals house- most of the water was gone by the time I arrived.
Great sambos and cakes after and a nice presentation in the GAA clubhouse.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great value- €20 or so, can't remember????
Undecided yet if I will run it again.... nothing to do with the race, all to do with my diary.
There were lots of fairly decent club runners in it and a good few Tri heads from the Athlone area.

was tempted til i read that. my last ( and only ) half i just shaved in under 2 hours, did the warriors in 1.29 since so i think theres a fair amount to be scraped off and i was half looking to tarmonbarry to have a go at it, running on my own for 20k without someone in front to try and pick off or someone behind to motivate me, i dunno would it be the best for getting much off my time.. still 20 quid ! ... mite start upping the mileage again just in case ..

    Anyone doing this run sunday?

Looking at an old thread it seems its a very small event but maybe its built up since then?
Very little about it on run ireland and no website but ive heard only good things otherwise.

oh and €20 with a t-shirt is great value

Ive ran it about 8 times its a great race which allways attracts a small field. It is atesting enough course with a number of tough hills but a fast last 4 miles.A race that deserves more runners than it gets, it probably should appoint a high profile "race director" and charge 50 euros then it would get hundrets.

Will this be a very fast race so?

I'm doing half marathon in abouts 2hrs 25min.Will i be left behind the small field?

I did this race about 6 years ago. Small field, but it was flogging rain, so that wouldn't have helped. I found it very well organised and a nice course, with a few tough hills after half way, but nothing too hard. There was a good range of abilities as well, so I don't think anyone would be left behind.

The half is very suitable to all levels of ability, though its usually won in c. 75 mins or less, there will be people finishing in closer to 2 and a half hours or more, too. Last year there were over 80 entrants.

There will be a t-shirt for each entrant. After the race there's the usual prizegiving ceremony and always plenty of refreshments served. At €20, it represents good value compared to many more expensive HMs.

Did the race sunday.Id hazard a guess that there were about 150 doing it.
The event has a real feel that the whole gaa club and community get together to do there bit for the area. The whole event has a local feel to it which made the race very enjoyable with none of the commercial feel that some other races have.Just a start finish line, water station, stewerts and a clock...what more could you want.

As for the course, its flat for about 6 miles then 1 quite tough hill. After that there were a few modest hills but nothing too bad.A flat last 1 and half miles of so.
I think it was won in about 1:17 but needless to say i didnt cross the line with him/her.

Maybe somebody may have results of the race?

Well done to everyone involved.Credit to your area.
