    Hi all,

Playing both of these courses this weekend for the first time. Just wondering if there's any advice for blind shots / blind drains etc? Any advice would be welcome...hoping to win a few bob off the ole lad!

    Thanks,
    Loire.

    Dooks Photographs

Skellig Bay Photographs These are not in the right order as the course has been changed around since I took the photographs, but it'll give you an idea of what to expect.

Fantastic pics of Skellig Bay, Kevin - what a beautiful day you got for it too. One of my favourite courses in the country and I've never seen it look so well as it does in your pics, thanks for posting.

LOL! I have a GPS so I should be OK with that. I suppose what I was looking for was something along the lines of "don't miss the 3rd on the left" or "don't go into the right bunker on the 4th" kinda stuff. Thanks for posting the photos Kevin...they're blocked where I work so I'll check them out later for sure.

Drove by Skellig Bay on Monday and went in to see what the green fees would be for a 5pm tee off, chances of getting 18 were outside but I was solo and not one car (literally) there, wouldn't budge on €50 so I passed as I thought full price at that hour was too steep.
Anyhow, point of the post is the course is closing at the end of the month, some yank has bought it and will close it for 2/3 years for a complete overhaul.
I'm imaging he wants to get on the US bandwagon that is Tralee, Waterville, Dooks, BB, Lahinch etc

Jesus thats a bit rich isnt it, you would think with the place closing they would be looking to get all the income they can.

Cheers for the heads up, Im actually playing Dooks on the 10th of October and we are looking for another course to play on the Sunday and we were thinking of Skellig Bay. Have you any other suggestions for courses in and around Tralee \ Killarney that are worth playing? We dont mind if its links or Parkland as long as its a nice track and wont break the bank, IE:- Tralee, Waterville.

Thats crazy stuff. Played there about 3-4 years ago and thought it was very average. Wouldn't pay more than €20 for it on a good day!!

Ballyheigue is a cheap 9 hole course about 15/20 mins from Tralee Ally , some nice views but the price would reflect the standard. There are a few nice holes out there and a few so so holes.

Wouldn't generally recommend it as there are far better courses around but if you're in Tralee and looking for a cheap round that doesn't eat into too much of the day, I would head out for a quick 9.

Another option would be Castlegregory GC. It's a 9 hole but has some lovely holes and views. Good value for money. About a half hour drive from Tralee.

Well I'm just back from 3 days there, played Dooks, Killarney Kileen and Killarney Mahony's each morning, I suggest Killarney Kileen but it being a Sunday I'd imagine any deal would be hard to come by. Would be nice to play a course that held 4 Irish Opens and a Curtis Cup...

PS I also drove out to Waterville and they were €75 with GUI card mid week

I'd say when the yank is finished with it you can add a 1 in front of that €20, it being so close to Waterville too.....

I rang Killarney, can get out in Killeen for 65 a head on Sunday morning, or we can play Mahony's point after 3 (bit late) for 55 or we can play Lackabane all day for 25 quid... we are currently deciding between Killeen or Lackabane

Sweet mama, not even close IMHO Killeen is a far superior course to Mahony's and well worth the extra tenner, given the choice you have - a so so course than will disappear from memory in a week or paying the extra 40 I'd go for Killeen without hesitation, I walked a bit of the Lackabane course and quite dull.

Cheers man, thats my thinking aswell, no point in travelling all that way to play a dull course. Another one to scratch off the list
