Did you pay the €38? You will have a block on your student card until you go to the fees office with your grant approval letter, but will be fine for all lectures, etc

I'm paying it tomorrow :) thanks for your help

You're registered once you've finished your online registration, but the fees do have to be paid before the 30th of September. I'm in the same boat, waiting for grant, but was talking to registry a few times and the SU. The €38 must be paid by you, and if you don't get all your fees paid before orientation, you mightn't be able to pick up your student card during that week. But apparently registry can print off something saying you're registered so you can still access most things, and you can get a student card after your fees are paid if you weren't able to before.

Just wondering is it true if you pay the 2038 with a loan, do you get the 2000 back when the grant is approved?

Yes you'll get your money back when grant has gone through.

Yes, DCU will refund you the €2,000 then charge the awarding body (County Council, etc). However, if you are going to get a loan, depending on where you get it from, you may be charged if you pay it back quicker than expected, depending on where you are getting the loan from (Credit Unions never do that, afaik). You do have until the end of September though, so keep that in mind :)

Funny thing, I am getting the loan from the cu as I need it for rent and registry fee, so why should I never do that?

    Lads, quick q.

I got approved for my grant last year and received a cheque around October/November time I think paying me back my €1500. This year I just registered and my amount due is only 38 euro which I paid by laser. Would the grant automatically follow through and that's why it's only 38 euro this year?

    I'm not complaining though! :pac:

Oh, I didn't mean don't get a loan from the Credit Union, that was in reference to having to pay for paying your loan early, which some banks do. Credit Unions are brilliant for loans, that's what my Mum used to pay for the first part of my rent! Sorry it wasn't that clear :S

I think grants automatically follow through, though if you were going to an IT I think it's different... Well, my sister just got hers automatically anyway :)

I am also covered by the grant. I went to DCU last week to get my letter stamped and i sent it into the council on Thursday. When I went to the Finance office and showed her my acceptance form she stamped it and photocopied it and was like "Ok that's you sorted" but when i log onto Registration it still says my balance is still €2038? I know I have to pay the 38euro by 30th september or something but thats not a problem. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Starting in DCU next week and I've paid the balance on my fees (grant covering rest and I got confirmation from County Council) but I still have not received the registration letter with logon details for registering online. Anyone else have the same problem? I sent Registry an email but I got an automated response, would like to get it sorted.

I'm starting a postgrad in DCU this year. I didn't get any registration details either. I called them on Monday and they said to e-mail them, which I did. I got the automated response you talked about. They replied later in the day to say they would send me out a registration pack. Haven't got it yet though!! Gonna call them tomorrow if I don't get it in the morning.

What is it about Irish Colleges, and administrations around the country, that they are ran so badly and you have to chase every single thing? You phone them then and it's as if your bothering them, "sure it's not their problem".

What are you doing the Postgrad in?

You are quite right there. The woman was giving me serious attitude. It's not like I have control getting the registration details out!!

I'm starting the part time diploma in education. How about you?

AGREED. I'm trying so hard to get my question answered by the fees office..nobody can give me a straight answer!! Now they are letting their phones run off the hook. Disgrace. Such a hassle. This whole fees thing is just a disaster!

To be fair it's not just DCU, the attitude of some administration staff around the country is shocking.

I'm doing the masters in accounting full time so I am keen to get registered pretty quickly!!

I got that as well. Kept on hold for ages and eventually you are disconnected. I'm gonna give them hell if they try and charge me a late fee for registering!!

Can you just pay the 38 euro now online if you're waiting for a grant?

I wanna know the same thing.

Cos loads of people on here are saying they dont have to be paid until the 30th september but theres nowhere on the website that says it. it just says if the fees arent paid along with registration (which ends monday) then we'll have to pay more.

I didn't get the registration pack today so I sent them an e-mail. In fairness to them they replied very quickly and attached to the e-mail was my registration details. My details worked ok for me. The only thing I don't understand was that when I paid my fees it said I was sucessful but when I view the page again, it says I owe €720. Dunno what that is for!!

    folks

I think you are failing to appreciate that you have 2500 1st years registering and about 8,000 others, the amount of emails and calls to these admin offices must be crazy, there is no way all calls can be answered unless you use a call centre.

    give the staff a break!

I found the staff to be grand when I rang the week I received my registration pack, Registry was a bit iffy, but to be fair I probably was annoying them. Finance were fine when I was talking to them during that week too. Also called into the registry office last week and got a really positive response.
I dunno, it's be fairly nightmarish to work in that office for September I'd say!
