    Hi guys,

There are some Dreamboxes advertised on Done Deal in the last few days:

    http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/tv/2495163

I thought these were now blocked. Does anybody have one of these or do you know if they can receive all channels?

Get this question asked by customers all the time
"Was told that there is this box you can get for €??? that will give me all the channels"

SKY's subscription service has not and is unlikely ever to be hacked as they will just change the encryption and cards when they feel that it is becoming likely.

If you are buying one of these boxes thinking that you can just connect it up scan and watch any channel you want then you are wasting your money. There is a way of doing it but it will likely cost you more money on top of the price of the box. (a subscription of sorts) and it will freeze quite regularly and not work at all at times. You would also need a fast trouble free internet connection.

Now I have seen some people selling these type of boxes at huge prices to people and including the pirate subscription, but someone that blatant will likely be caught before you have saved any money on it. You would of been far better giving that money to sky and availing of the service properly (ie. no freezing, proper EPG, SKY+ facilities).

If you do decide to buy one. I can recommend Satboxes. I dealt with them a few times and they are very helpful indeed. I would recommend the newer DM800se. Its a much much better box than the old dm800hd.

I'd also recommend that you are reasonably technically capable with computers and the like (linux operating system) as its quite a steep learning curve initially and will require quite a bit of time investment. If you're the type that just wants a box that you can plug in and play then this is not for you and I would suggest just getting Sky in that case.

Dreamboxes need a bit of know how in how to use them. Once you know what your doing, they are great pieces of kits. Recording, streaming over your home network, watching films or video files on.

Anyone with half a brain can setup a good reliable system that his family etc can make use and share the costs involved to make it worth the small effort , :D

Many people with a full brain have no idea when it comes to setting up servers, networks and general computer geekery, me included, so its not easy for everyone. Are you good at everything? I doubt it

Nope, you can get one here for 169, but I'd recommend the newer one for 209 tbh! ;)

You can only discuss Dreamboxes in satellite for their sole legitimate use of being a free-to-air reciever. Clearly that was not the OPs intention. Any abuse of this rule will lead to the discussion of dreamboxes being totally banned as is the case elsewhere in Cable and Digital.
