Are shops like hollister/forever 21 really for teenagers?

I like some of the basic stuff they have (cardigans an jeans) but at 18 it seems like the store is aimed at younger people. Hollister especially with all their clOthes with the logo Plastered on their hoodies etc. :)

What do you think? Is it just for teenagers?

I'm 20, I think Forever 21 is great and certainly not just for under 18s. I've bought a good few nice things from there.

I've never bought Hollister but I definitely don't like when brand names are printed all over clothes. I wouldn't describe it as an age thing though, more just a personal taste thing.

I would suspect their main target market, in their customer segmentation and treatment, is teenagers, possibly early 20s/college years, based on the marketing and sizing and store layouts etc.

It doesn't mean that you can't shop there if you are older, just pick and choose. My teenage years are a long long time ago but I have quite a lot of stuff from Forever 21, there's lots I reject because I do think I'm too old for it (see Sibylla's interesting thread), as in it won't suit me. I wear Hollister non-logo t-shirts, the small logo is pretty discreet as logos go, and I have a few hoodies for knocking around at home/supermarket etc because I like them and they're cosy.

Personally I steer well clear of Hollister/Abercrombie & Futch (they are sister companies) not because their clothes look a bit stupid in my opinion, but because of their horrendous 'look policy' for staff and their attitudes towards people with diabilities and minority groups.

    I know nothing about Forever21, though. :)

For kids its more about what brands you are wearing rather than how you look, thats why most of them look like walking billboards. Plus there is a lot of keeping up with Jones's when you are that age. When i was younger i used to wear brands rather than clothes but the older i got the less i was concerned and just concentrated on looking good. I wouldnt dream of wearing something with big branding on it now. If you want me to advertise something for you then you can pay me, otherwise you can get stuffed. I dont know about forever 21 but i dont think brands like Hollister and A&F are necessarily for teenagers but they most certainly appeal to them because of the big branding.

Forever 21, no. I mean I'm 20 and see a few things I could wear there.

Hollister, not really either. It's just gotten a reputation for being a young brand but when you think about it they are just sweats and hoodies.

I'm 20 and recently bought some clothing from Hollister cardigans, skirts and as dress. I think they were absolutely fine but I wouldn't buy their hoodies, dislike the huge logo.
I don't think I would be in a hurry to shop there again. Forever 21 would be a much better choice IMO.

Yeah I agree with most of what you're saying.
I was in forever21 for the first time today and it reminded me of topshop to a certain extent :) change my mind there.

As for hollister, some of their cardigans looked so comfy....mind you what I could see! What's with the dark lighting?!
Yeah theyve some really nice tops and shirts but I just avoid the logos.

I do agree that teenagers tend to look like walking billboards haha. I missed that phase of my life thank god.

Thanks for your opinions guys. :)

Topshop makes me feel old (almost 23) because I saw a top saying 'Born in the 90's'. Officially not Topshop's target market anymore :( Not that I actually buy there anymore, so overpriced.

I get loads of stuff in Forever 21. Great prices, huge range, and haven't found anything to be of bad quality- I've literally spent about €500 in there and it's not even open a year yet. You get loads for your money. The shoes are dissapointing though, and the bags. Jewellery and clothes- fantastic.

I'm not into Hollister. I might buy jeans in it, haven't been to the Dundrum one yet though.
