2 weeks ago my email gt hacked n sent a message to all my contacts dat i had been mugged. I couldnt log into the email so i thought i was hacked.

Yesterday the same message was sent by my brothers email n he to cant log into his email.

I scanned my computer with avast n Malabytes anti - malware and the results were negative. Is der any program u recommend to scan for botnets

GMER is good at finding that kind of thing but to be honest if both you and your brother's email passwords are weak (family name, name of a pet, place of birth etc) then it's just as likely that a dictionary program has guessed your password.

Is your email web based or accessed via Outlook etc?

Also I'm not sure you understand what a botnet is...

It is web based, with hotmail.

Reson i was thinking it was a botnet was that the 2 messages are identical n that my internet connection has be really ****e since it happened to me 2 weeks ago. I read somewhere that this could be down to have a botnet on ur comp bt i may wrong

Ok so even if your machine was infected it wouldn't be able to log in to your hotmail account on your behalf. No infection located on your computer can access an account that's on the Internet like that.

Someone has just guessed your password, change it.

Again, read up on what a botnet actually is.

A keylogger would be a possibility, but also phishing/password guessing/dictionary attacks the list is endless. My guess is that you and your brother could have fallen for some sort of phishing scam, may have joined a certain site that became compromised and you used the same password for that site as your email (the sites database would have your email and saved password, and some suprisingly arn't encrypted, even companies like Sony screw up like this!). Try GMER see if the machine has a hidden logger or rootkit, try running a ESET online virus Scan see if it picks anything up, it should pick up any keyloggers you may have

Do you use the same password for your email account and things like Facebook? If so anyone of your online accounts could have been hacked/guessed and as a result all your other accounts.

You can't have a botnet on your computer. Your computer could be part of a botnet. Have you any other machines to test your network out with? This would eliminate your PC from the slow internet equation.
