Insurance for a first time driver

OK - thinking of getting a license for the first time (I'm 42) but I'm getting scared off by insurance quotes - money is tight. Some quotes are over E1000 and are not going to fly! Is it possible to get in under my sisters insurance for example even though we have different addresses and obviously different cars?

It is possible, just make sure the car is registered in her name and that she is the main user.

    Otherwise it's illegal (Fronting)

I just got insured on a Mams 98 Fiesta, 17 on a provisional for €1100 fully comp with AxA, my dearest quote was €6.500 with FBD.

No offence but why would you get fully comp on a 13 year old fiesta? Surely it cost a few hundred more for fully comp over third party? Wouldn't you replace the car for not much more than the extra cost to go fully comp?

Totally agree with you, don't even ask me why but Fully Comp was €3 cheaper than TP F&F, so I might as well.

The insurance cost 4 times what the car did though
