irish coast guard search and rescue helicopter

    I would like join the irish coast guard search and rescue (helicopter) and wonder what is involved in training ???

    That depends on what you want to do for them - ground crew, winch man, pilot?

    having thousands of flight hours in either military or harsh environments ! chc usually employ ex military or people who have flown to oil rigs and the like !

    Go direct for the information.....google Canadian Helicopter Corporation and give them an email but as posted, military experience is where most of the great pilots come from. Hell of alot of great pilots are privately trained too though!'

    Last time CHC advertised co-pilot jobs for the Irish coast guard, the requirements were commercial pilots license, instrument rating, 750 hours total time of which a few hundred had to be multi-engine hrs

    As the other posters have mentioned a shed load of hours on type working in the same environment,If your thinking of doing it from scratch( no licence to full commercial one) your looking at over a €100k easily wether you would include a TR in that price I don't know as I'm a fixed wing man.:p

    EMT trained afaik could be EMTP though.

    How often do they recruit? I've never seen it advertised?

    I was talking to a ircg crew before. They said that the winch man and winch operator were both hse trained paramedics, they served there time in ambulance stations and then applied for the job on chc's website.Last I heard chc are not able to employ APs as they have not signed up to the AP CPGs. Hence some times paramedics will fly with them if they were at the scene first and carried out at AP intervention.
    As for the pilots there just pilots there job is hard enuf with out trying to lend a hand in the back.
