This popped up a few weeks ago in some of the papers, but it seems to be confirmed now

Huang Nubo, Chinese Tycoon, Party member and Former Government Minister Has purchased 300 Square KM of Iceland.

the Area is in the North East of the country at Grímsstaðir á Fjöllum, near the Vatnajökull, the larger glacier in Iceland.

suposedly for a Hotel and Golf course, however when asked about the nature of thedevelopment the response was
"It is inconvenient to disclose the overall plan now," a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.

To put this in perspective, The entire Burren region is 250 Square KM.

Whats going on here, Seriously how big is the Golfcourse going to be????

Huang Nubo Hasbeen linked to the Chinese Governments Propaganda Ministry and their Construction Ministry

well i was reading recently they're planning on turning Athlone into a city and a hub for trading between china and europe so anything's possible!
you didn't provide a source for why you think it's confirmed, but it's definitely odd if true.

China has been buying lots of land in Africa with plans to buy land in south America and now Europe by the looks of it, also usa owes China billions of dollars!- a Chinese world domination sounds quite plausible

    300km2 is nothing.

Ted Turner an American Billionaire bought thousands of Square Miles of land in Maine and Georgia. Just so he could hunt there. He currently owns 7,731.86 km2 of land in the US. That doesnt mean there is a conspiracy. THe land is worth Feck all.

Maybe the reason the guy bought the land in Iceland is to try develop Geo Thermal energy solutions.

I think people will be looking back fondly at the days of US hegemony if that happens. When you look at the freedom that the Chinese government allows its own citizens...

Ah But, Ted Turner is an American, so he can buy as much America as he wants, however it would still raise eyebrows if he bought a Large chunk of Iceland.

Monty, thats a valid point, I personally fel that we'd be in a much better situation if we object to this NOW as opposed to whingin about the Chinese owning everything in a few years
