A serenely smiling Dawkins was introduced on the preamble to tonight's instalment of Newsnight. I gather from the very short introduction he will be on towards the end of the programme talking about how science can capture the affections inspired by religious belief. I expect it's more of the usual science vs religion tilting at windmills. But I don't suppose folks here would agree with that analysis.

If I were a gay I wouldn't be able to choose between Hitchens and Paxman. :pac:

Ye have to love Paxman, no pussy footing around. "Do you really care that there are a lot of stupid people around?"

He's just brilliant in general. Thought he was great interviewing The Hitch as well.

Having, I assume, watched it, what's yours?

Seems he is releasing a book explaining various scientific concepts to 12 years old, evolution being one of them.

Looks like I've Christmas presents sorted for a pair of posters on this forum :pac:

If you can read this, you're too close!

I am going to a 'show' of his new book. He'll be demonstrating it. You get a copy of the book included in the ticket. Should be fun.

He's hardly going to have the organ and choir going, is he? Singing a few hymns to evolution :pac:

he comes across as lacking a sense of humour in that interview, or the bit i watched of it anyway.

I'm sorry this couldn't possibly be Richard Dawkins, that's a perfectly personable and pleasant man speaking. You must be mistaken.

The last frame should have been a dead-pan Religion asserting "Yes, well, they're invisible dragons".

Oh, I remember hearing about this! It's illustrated by Dave McKean - I'll definitely be getting a copy.

I'm only getting around to watching this now. To paraphrase Eamon Dunphy - that's the second time you'll see sex between 2 men live on the BBC. (First time was Garth Crooks and Sven Goran Eriksson apparently.) Still, even though I disagree with Dawkins on many things, he came across as a gentleman when discussing religion, which I think is saying something.

It was surprisingly masturbatory from the BBC / Paxman

What did you expect? Dawkins has written a science book for children. Paxman can hardly grill him on that. 'Who gives you the right to attempt to get children interested in science and not mythology!".

    Made me laugh.
Now another panel with the two of them humbly wondering what's outside the room would have been nice :pac:
