Why is everyone driving around with their fog lights on?

I've noticed in the last year or so that almost everyone is driving around with their fog lights on at night. I thought it was an offence to drive with your fog lights on when there's no fog.

Are people purposefully putting them on or are they left on by accident

If you're in front of an idiot with his front fogs on then it is a big deal - they're extremely blinding, particularly on a wet road.

To make up for the incompetence of Irish drivers, all cars should automatically switch off their fog lights every time the ignition is switched off.

Then again, what's worse is the idiotic boy racers who use them as spots - or wire up extra spots......spots should ONLY come on with headlights, not with dips.

It's predominantly a boy racer thing, and they think it makes the car look cooler (thought it would have to have looked cool in the first place for that).

You notice it especially on cars where the foglights are more prominent.

I agree with the OP, it's incredibly annoying and downright dangerous if you're being blinded by them from either direction on a country road at night.
