Hi I was wondering could someone tell me my friend is a lone parent wit one child she currently gets lone parent allowance and rent allowance, her daughter has just started school so she is looking to take on some part time work but has no idea how much she could earn before it impacts on her current welfare payments she has tried to ask welfare and housing agency how much she can earn but just bn told bring in first payslip that's all good n well but if she takes on a job and loses more then she makes it not realistic to take on the work can anyone help and give some sort of guidelines to what she can work she wants to get back to work and work her way off welfare but cant justify taking on part time work just to lose the welfare she has vicious circle !!

She can earn euro146.50 and that will not affect her OPFP. anything extra she earns,1/2 will be deducted from her OPFP. so, for example if she were to earn euro200 per week, only about euro25 will be deducted from her payment. if she can get at least 20 hours work, she could possibly qualify for FIS as well.
She must tell the CWO responsible for her Rent Supplement is her circumstances change (if she gets a job or another SW payment) as any increase in income could reduce her entitlement to rent supplement.
in my experience lone parents who can find employment which suits them and their children are always delighted to have taken this step.

She should probably look at FIS, if she works 19 hrs per week. This means she will get an aditional payment that may make it worth her while.

As Mrs Byrne says if she is under the €146 this will not affect her lone parent and she can apply for FIS. But she should contact her lone parent section to let them know she has commenced employment as OPF(lone parent) will be notified that she has started work. Best to keep everything above board at the beginning.

She can also earn €75 per week without her rent allowance been affected, and 25% of anything over 75 is not taken into account.
