New Album out first week in October.
We got a good sneak peak at many of the new songs on the amazing tour just gone.
I've only just heard the first single 'Lucky Now' on the radio. Wow! Such a beautiful song!
Here's hoping be comes back again to tour Europe after the release. This really sounds something special.
Anyone else really looking forward to this album?

He's playing London, Union Chapel on the 27th of Oct, which is a thursday so you'd guess it won't be a stand alone show

Cheers for the heads up!! I've been pretty busy the past while that I haven't checked out the archive site. Sure hope a Dublin gig is announced. Might try get tickets for the London show just in case... although it'll sell out in a flash!

I made it to the Cork gig, but not Dublin. Fantastic gig.

Yep was there! Never missed any of his Dublin shows. Just really want to see him again! The solo acoustic tours are always amazing.

The folks at NPR come up trumps again....

On first listen, seems like more of the same, with the single, Come Home, Invisible Riverside and Do I Wait been the standouts. Theres a lovely 'nashville' sound on the album and altogether its a fair effort to be honest.
Wish he'd leave filler like Chains Of Love in the green bin, as it brings nothing to the album. An undoubted talent who is far too prolific at times, to his own detriment.

What? Surely your use of that phrase is incorrect? Why would it be to his own detriment? You don't want an amazing artist to release new material? Im confised as to what you mean by this.

His 'quality control' leaves alot to be desired, and far be it from me to question his integrity, but releasing an album every year does not help.

I started listening to Whiskeytown back in the nineties and eagerly anticipated the release of Heartbreaker. It was/is an immense effort, born of frustration that may or may not have had anything to with the Whiskeytown collapse. I lost a lot of respect for him as an artist through the noughties though, partly because of some on stage antics that I witnessed, but also by his prolific output. I just feel he is capable of producing a lot stronger stuff, and that his songwriting has been somewhat diluted by a need to write/record.

Heartbreaker still stands as his strongest though followed closely by Strangers Almanac.

The thing about Ryan Adams is that for all the people who say, "oh he releases too much", you'll find a Ryan Adams fan whos favourite record is the one that someone else would think should never have been made.

For example, I adore Gold, but some other Ryan Adams fans think its garbage.

I dislike Rock N Roll, but other people go wild for it.

    Its all about personal tastes.

What Ryan has done is release a lot of the types of music he likes to work with, rock, pop, country, punk, death metal, alt country....its up to the listener to go through it & find what they like & stick with that. Who knows? Maybe he'll introduce you to new types of music?!

I'd prefer an artist who makes a brave choice like that & expects his listener to "work" a little, than one who hums & haws over 1 album every 3-5 years.

By all means, but if the strength of that work is below par, it will draw criticism and ultimately lead to a decline in listeners. I have no issue with attempting different styles, and I'm not so sure he has varied that much from his alt country/alt rock roots bar some dalliances into hiphop, but for me its about quality at the end of the day and he certainly hasn't maintained that level he set early in his career.

Reason being : He commits too much of his recordings to commercial release. His prolificacy contributes to this and perhaps he likes it this way, and wants it to be this way and if thats the case so be it, afterall, as you so rightly point out, its about personal taste at the end of the day.

P.S. I'd love to see him spend a week with Jim James of My Morning Jacket to see what they'd come up with.....:D

Maybe he just likes writing and recording and couldn't give a fuck what critics think

He's an artist, can do what he wants as far as I'm concerned. Output could have been shortened to appeal to some no doubt, but f**k it - why not?

Refuse to listen to clips etc, just waiting for album to arrive via cdwow & spend the day indulging myself then. But by all a/c's it looks very promising!

With an artist like Adams you have to accept that he likes to mix up and vary his style. Whether he chooses thsi or it just happens while he writes I don't know. But its upto you to give your artist a listen and respect his own choice even if its muck, just dont listen to it, and hope that the next release is a style you like and is good.

I can easily say he hasnt had a bad album ever, even the Rock n Roll album is good. Highlights for me have to be Heartbreaker and Cold Roses. Theres just something about his songwriting that appeals to me. he's been so f**ked around and he can find inspiration anywhere. i read an interview recently where he felt trapped in the Cardinals and was happy they'd parted. i really enjoyed the 2 irish shows the cardinals played in the ambassador and national boxing arena because casal and ryan's harmonies were simply awesome.. his next step will def be interesting so ive also ordered the new album off of cd wow after listening to it on npr..
