Can anyone recommend a good all round photo printer.
I only need to print up to A4 size photos, but want a printer that offers good print results and that the consumables don't cost the earth.

You'll probably get better results with something that uses multiple cartridges. I've a canon MG 6150. It uses six different inks, and while replacing all of them will cost you between 75 and 90 lids, I replace them piecemeal. I quite like it, particularly when paired with the Photo Paper Plus Glossy II. I have to say, I like the look of their Pixma range in general, and they come in at various price points.

Cool to see someone printing their pictures at home too. There's nothing like a bunch of 6 x 4s.

TBH you're probably better off going to a lab because you won't print any cheaper/better with a home printer.
If you prepare the files correctly, any decent lab will churn out top quality A4's for a lot less than you can with a home printer.

would love to be able to use a lab, but this is for a promo idea for the plowing championships. A guy I have done a small bit of work for previously, wants me to take photos on his trade stand, with his clients, and to print off a photo and give it to them.
The idea is to have a template set up with his company name and details, and the Plowing Championships 2011 like a caption on the bottom of the photo and to print 2 off on an A4 sheet.
If we can't organise a printer in time, we are going to email on photos.

If you're contemplating a human as opposed to a brand then stcstc on boards is an option. Visit her website www.360-dpi.com

Howya. I have one of the Canon printers mentioned above for sale. I'm in Clane so can drop it to you this weekend if you wish. Have a look at it here - http://www.adverts.ie/other-photography/canon-pixma-mg8150/802028
