I have just got my exam results and have failed one of my exams, worth 10 credits. I got 23% in this exam. This is the only one i failed. Is it possible for me to cary this exam through to second year? if so will I have to pay extra fees? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Doubtful, you have to repeat the year and pay external examination fee to sit the exam again which is €300-ish (I think). Talk to your course co-ordinator / chair

I think if its an optional module you can carry it but if its a core module, which is most, then you have to repeat the module next year. It will be your only class. As said above contact your course co-ordinator.

Sorry but nope. Under new Marks & Standards rules its not possible to carry a module. It used to be, but not anymore... or at least that the letter of the [DCU] law.
As others say, talk to your Programme Board chair.

Correcting me twice today H2G2, things seemed to have changed since my induction day a while back. Does this mean the whole core module element is now irrelevant?

    Sorry about that ;)

They have sort of changed recently with the new Marks & Standards regulations etc. The core module bit isn't irrelevant, but for almost all undergrad programmes in DCU M&S won't allow progression (ie. move to following year) while carrying a module (core or otherwise). There are a few exceptions to this rule but basically it covers 99% of programmes.

On related point, there has been a huge amount of subtle changes in programme regulations over the last 2-3 years and a move to uniform policy and I wonder how many students are really that informed about the current rules as it applies to their degree programme? I suspect not that many, given all the changes.
