Adult Braces to Fill Gaps

    Hi,

I'm wondering how successful braces are to fix gaps in teeth? Are they best suited to fix crowding rather than fixing gaps?

My main problem us that I have a gap of approx 3mm between my central incisors. By fixing this space, because my lateral incisors are quite small, it would lead to other gaps and the orthodontist I spoke to reckoned that it my be necessary to use bonding to fill some of the space.

I think if the front two teeth are straightened, it would be a major improvement but I have reservations about going ahead. It's a long time to have to put up with braces if I'm not happy with the outcome at the end of it all.

Also in terms of bonding, does anyone have any view on this? Is it a better treatment than veneers and how often does the bonding need to be replaced?

    Thanks

    Hi there

nobody here can say what is best for you but you have made a good start by seeing an orthodontist.

If the teeth are small then the braces may not close all the spaces and the small teeth need to be made wider. This is done after the orthodontics by "bonding" either a white filling or a more permanent solution is a veneer.

It sounds like a lot of work and is a big commitment but will be worth it in the end

    Thanks for the reply.

In terms of the bonding, how many years is it likely to last? What sort of price would I be looking at per tooth?

I cannot tell you how much or how long it will last

you need to see an orthodontist again and discuss it further
