Incident: Swiss A321 at Dublin on Sep 13th 2011, smoke in cabin
By Simon Hradecky, created Tuesday, Sep 13th 2011 15:24Z, last updated Tuesday, Sep 13th 2011 15:24Z

A Swiss International Airlines Airbus A321-100, registration HB-IOC performing flight LX-401 from Dublin (Ireland) to Zurich (Switzerland) with 155 people on board, was climbing through FL070 out of Dublin's runway 28 when grey smoke with the smell of burning plastics was observed in the cabin. The crew levelled off and returned to Dublin for a safe landing on runway 28 about 10 minutes after departure. After a brief inspection by emergency services the aircraft taxied to the gate.

The cause of the smoke is under investigation.

A replacement aircraft is being dispatched to Dublin and is expected to reach Zurich with a delay of 8 hours.

The only mention of swissair was by me in relation to a swissair flight that crashed.

The news report mentions swiss, as does muppet01

Didn't that Swissair pilot fail numerous checkrides.

However if im not mistaken his flight guide was out dated or something. Caused him to hit the mountain.

What exactly are you referring to?

    Which Swissair pilot?
    What is a Flight Guide?
    What mountain?

And you say you have 5 years in aviation?

Could be a luggage handler..... Or a Luggage Carousel Turner On-er/Off-er.... Or maybe the guy who cleans the windows on the control tower....

Probelly the BAE146/85 that crashed into the hill approching I think Zurich, that's what chewits is referring to. It's new on aircrash investigation on Nat Geo. That guy was a disaster, he raised the landing gear when the plane was at the gate and about to start boarding one time, and he still kept his job.

    LX3597: (from wikipedia)
CFIT on approach to ZRH, 24 November 2001.
1-Captain deliberately descending below the minimum descent altitude (MDA) without having the required visual contact with either the approach lights or the runway.
2-copilot making no attempt to prevent the continuation of the flight below the minimum descent altitude.
3-the pilot had failed to perform correct navigation and landing procedures before, but no action had been taken by the airline.
4-the range of hills the plane crashed into was not marked in the Jeppesen approach chart used by the crew.
5-despite the hilly terrain the approach to runway 28 was not equipped with a Minimum Safe Altitude Warning (MSAW) system.
6-the airport's means of determining visibility were inadequate for runway 28 and the visual minimums at the time of the accident were actually inappropriate for using the standard approach to runway 28..

Having read quite a few of your posts Andrew33, I have no doubts about your aviation knowledge.............the quoted statement was directed at Chewits who says they have 5 years work in aviation but has asked quite a few 'newbie' questions in relation to aircraft/airline operations.

I know Tenger, I was joking:D, I actually know very little about the industry as a whole (as is glaringly obvious from some of my posts!)

Good to see my sarcasm filter is still switched off.

While you say you do not know the industry you still know how to google relatively simple answers- why no winglets on the B787.....
