Boot Manager Issue

    Some months ago I partitioned my 500Gig HDD and put a trial of windows 7 on it.

    When I went to boot I got the usual choice of OS and it would default to 7 as expected.

    I then removed 7, keeping my original XP installation.

    THe annoying problem I have is that the boot manager still comes up and will default to Win7 within 30 seconds and of course wont boot because its gone.

    I have looked at boot.ini in XP and its shown below.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=3
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons
    UnsupportedDebug="do not select this" /debug
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut

    What am I missing.

    XP is all up to date and runs pefect.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply mp22 but I'm not getting any errors, just that the option for Win7 is still there and I have to highlight the "earlier version of windows" before 30 seconds or it will try to boot to 7.

    Do you think the boot.ini is corrupted in some way even though I can see it in XP.

    The only thing I was thinking was that is the pc still using windows 7's loader?

    Hmmmmmm ...........

    I see what your saying.

    Would I be able to find that loader and edit/delete it.

    I have tried editing boot.ini in XP but it had no effect, which made me think its not using this ini file but couldnt find a solution on the net.

    did the same thing myself still shows windows 7 even though its not there :/ anywho when you go to startup you should see something about boot menu(think its F2 to enter it). if i remember correctly i changed it there so it would auto select windows vista(my original os) and then changed the boot speed to 10 seconds instead of 30

    I've no idea if you could delete the ini file.I was thinking if you repair the boot manager with the xp repair consol you would over write the existing one,and get back to xp's boot manager.

    Yeah, ok.

    I will give it a go.

    Thanks again

    Sierra, I dont get any options like that when I hit F11 (boot menu). I get as expected a device menu for boot options.
