    Apols if incorrect forum.

Can anyone tell me if there is a legal maximum step height for outside a front door?

Depends upon when the property was built. Building Regulations look for level access at the main entrance to a dwelling since c 2000, although this is not always the case in reality.

Is it a house or a public building or what?

Private house built in the 1970's. Currently has three steps - 15cm + 2 x 17cm. Am going to add 5cm stone to these.

Is this part of an bigger job? If so, how big?

Nope. Just as stated. Existing steps to be covered in more stone

If there is not a 'material alteration' to the building, then building regs don't apply to this change. However, you might like to look for smart ways to eliminate the step. This would be a big benefit for many homeowners, including older people, people with buggies, kids, anyone who is unsteady on their feet etc.

Does the step serve any real purpose? Have you considered alternatives?

There is already a side ramp for wheels.

Thank you for your answers. Got what I needed.
