2 year warranty

I recently saw a 24month warranty offered (for used car) on a carzone ad and it struck me as bein unusual but then I looked at other stock from the Dealer and saw that a fair few of his cars come with the same warranty.

Is this a sign of hard times where dealers have to offer more of a deal/package?
Is it that, coming towards the end of a year, the car apears to some buyers to be older than advertised. Eg a 2007 car could be seen as bein closer to 5year old than 4.
Is it an enticement for certain models that have fallen out of favor with buyers/the dealer's findin hard to shift ?

....OR, is such an offer more common than I think? (I have been focusing on private ads) and that such offers have been around for a while.

Is the 24month warranty a great asset...or is there reason to be sceptical/cautious

Was it a BMW? BMW offer 2 year warranty's on used cars.
I just bought my 2007 5 series with a 2 year warranty from a registered bmw dealer.
Think Audi do it as well.
I'm very happy with it... basically 2 years of peace and mind on a 4 year old diesel..well worth it imo

When we bought the missus 05 Scenic in early 08 we got a 2 year warranty with it. Cant imagine its that unusual.

    @ Bittihuduga
JOC car sales (Glasnevin, Dublin) offer this warranty on some of the stock they have.

I bet the selling price of the car includes the cost of offering the addional warranty coverage. The dealer has to cover himself especially on a nearly 7 year old car which would be more prone to repair than a newer car while still making profit on the sale. You are basically paying extra for the peace of mind but this will appeal to some buyers.

My advice though is read the small print, some of these warranties can have odd terms and conditions attached to them.

Be careful. Sometimes they are stupid warranties provided by a 3rd party. All "wear and tear" is excluded. Very very little actually gets covered.

I saw a 2007 BMW from a non BMW with a 3 year warranty last night!

@stevePH: did you buy the car from JOC car sales?
i can see they have few cars with 2 years warranty.

    any suggestions?
mileage is too high for a 2007 car :-(
but is it worth a risk with 2 years warranty?

That 2.0 litre engine is well capable of doing more than twice that mileage, they are practically bomb proof once they are maintained properly. Also it says that there is a 2 year warranty "available". That is not the same as being included. You need to clarify that with the dealer and what is covered under the warranty as I'd doubt that that asking price includes a 2 year warranty.

One thing to note though is that the SR model is the base model. This one is the top spec "Executive" model for a few quid more:

@bittihuduga I haven't bought yet but am so close I can taste it! :)
TBH, really hopin to buy soon - search fatigue startin to kick in.

Regardin your Q - is it worth a risk -
considerin the age of the car, I would bet on that mileage being racked up via motorway mileage - which would suggest not the same wear on suspension etc. as with regular town/country drivin.
Plus, in my book, the service history is worth its weight in gold.
