House renovation - plumber not registered with SEAI?

So we're getting to the end stage of finalizing our tender fee with the builder. We are getting a new heating system, boiler, radiators etc and were under the impression that we would get a grant for it along with one for insulation. Now our builder has come back to us to say that his plumber is not registered with SEAI and that most other companies just add the cost onto their price as they know the grant is available?

I'm a bit miffed to say the least.. Should we be bargaining with the builder to reduce the price? Anyone know how much the grant is for a heating system?

I see that the grant is €560 for high efficiency oil/gas boiler with control upgrades. Would I be right in telling the builder to take this amount off the price?

Why doesn`t the plumber just register with the SEAI.

Indeed! I may recommend it to the builder though I'm sure he'll have some plausible explanation

Where you just assuming you could go for the grant or was it mentioned before hand? Also if it is gas is the plumber RGI registered? Also you are renovating so the house needs to be brought up to current building regs, 3 zones with a pre-insulated cylinder at least 36 x 18 and a boiler interlock.

Had a new heating system installed recently by an RGI SEAI registered plumber.
After getting 2 quotes for the job the difference between the 2 was exactly the ammount given in the grant.Could not be more obvious that the more expensive guy was adding on the grant to his quote.

Can I just add,if you can afford it then go for a solar panel system aswell.

With the way gas prices are going (up by 22% as of next month, and then again after Christmass) and oil about to go sky high, you would be mad not to invest in solar.

I did,and I couldnt be happier with my decision and choice.

Please tell me you brought that to their attention, that`s not the purpose of the grant. The grant was brought out to encourage people to be aware of their carbon footprint and offset the EU fine for carbon tax.
