I've updated the Sportive/Auxax Calendar with details for the Conor Pass/Blasket Blast sportif which will be taking place this weekend. If anyone here knows of any other sportifs which have yet to take place would you please post the details here or update the calendar with the relevant info.

    Thanks.

edit - just noticed the month tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet. D'oh!

Would love to go for the 100 k but worried by gradient on the cat 2 climb. Furthest I've cycled to date is 80k on flat.

There's a Malin-Malahide 245 km 2 day cycle on the 30th Sept (day one - Malin to Monaghan) / 1st October (Monaghan - Malahide). It's in aid of a fellow surveyor, Nicky Cleere - badly hurt in a hit and run in 2009 in Portugal. Just putting it out there if anyone's interested. More info at www.malin2malahide.ie

Shannonside CC in Athlone have a Sportive on the 2nd of October.
    3 Routes; 120km, 70km & 32km.
I did it last year and it was a good event. Good food stop but it was close to the end for the 70km route and it was well marshalled.

Links to the tour de breffni 60km and 100km on mapmyride.com

The 60k looks flat enough. If I was going to do one of these it'd have to be the 100k. Note: Mapmyride seems to be inconsistent with the climb ratings a bit (100k climb on it's own, rated cat 3). And they say on the sportive site it's a cat 2. Either way she'll be a tough beast, not to mention the two other cat 5's

Same as that but I think once you keep spinning away in high gears it's managable. That's what I plan to do if I go anyway.

Thanks to mod for spreadsheet :D

The David McCall Sportive is on Sunday 25th Setember.

    Event Information:

On Sunday 25th September 2011, Maryland Wheelers Cycling Club is hosting their annual ‘David McCall Sportive’. On the day there will be two routes on offer to suit beginners, enthusiasts and experienced cyclists. Both circuits will leave from the start and finish location at the Hillsborough Village Centre, Hillsborough.

The 80 km route is over the rolling terrain of the Dromara Mountains before taking on the steepest climb of the route up into Castlewellan before turning at Newcastle for the homeward journey.

The 110 km route follows generally the same circuit; however there is an additional 30 km which takes the riders up to one of the most scenic areas within the Mourne Mountains, Spelga Dam. The riders taking up the challenge of the 110 km route descend into Newcastle and onto the 80 km route and onward to the finish.

yup - the 4 Counties one goes thru Co.Kildare (and Meath, Offaly, Westmeath). Starts on old N4 in Clonard, not too far west of Enfield, so a handy trip over for ye ;)

Hi, found this on the IrishCycling site...

"the route this year is on well surfaced country roads, will two gentle shorts climbs on the 100k loop, one at Fahy hill before rhode and one up to croghan hill before Daingean village, the return trip from Tullamore to Kilbeggan / Clonard is on wide fast road"

    hope that helps!
If I hear anything about the course on MapMyRide, I'll post it here ;)

Spin around Connemara on the 24th September, full details on charities website:

    http://www.jigsaw.ie/cycle

    Saturday, 24th September 2011

The Jigsaw Galway Cycle is a fun event for the whole community to be part of. Why not get your friends, family or work colleagues involved and cycle together?

There’s a 100km route for those avid cyclists out there, a 45km route for those of you who are up for a bit of a challenge, and a 30km route for everyone to be part of.

Each route will start and finish in the outskirts of Galway city (Kelehan's Bar, Moycullen Road, Bushypark) and travels through the stunning scenery of Connemara.

What's more, there'll be food, refreshments and spot prizes for everyone to enjoy afterwards.

Its about as flat as 70k can be rolling hills and a few slightly longer drags but is an easy route. If you were really struggling when you get to Moate you could head straight back to Athlone instead of turning for Mount Temple its mostly downhill and would cut off 6 or 7k and a few hills.
But you really shoudn't need to with the large groups you just get pulled along and there really is no sustained climbs to break the groups up
