NATIONAL TRAILS DAY is a celebration of Ireland’s wonderful variety of trails and a chance for everyone to enjoy some of our most beautiful countryside, forests, mountains and lakes. With miles and miles of trails to explore, there is a trail to suit everyone.

The National Trails Office/Irish Sports Council are organising an Open Cycle on the Green Loop Trail for National Trails Day 2011.

The cycle will cover a distance of 40km along the Green Loop Trail, which is being opened for the day by the local authorities and Waterways Ireland. The trail connects a number of recreation parks in the greater Dublin area with the scenic Grand and Royal Canals. It will be fully waymarked and is a ideal for walking, cycling, walking or running.

The cycle will take place on Sunday 2nd of October at Phoenix Park (Visitor Centre), with registration beginning at 10:30am.

Cyclers can choose to cycle the trail themselves or cycle in National Trails Office led groups! Numbers will be limited, please email lchen@irishsportscouncil.ie to RSVP.

Walkers and runners are also welcome to complete the whole length or segments of the trail.
