I was thinking of adding Sky+ multiroom to the house but when i checked Sky/ireland.com it would cost me €199 just for the box. I have an old sky box which would work and to be honest i'm not to bothered about the Sky+ option. Can i do this if ordered the multiroom option?

I know someone who has a spare Sky+ box that i could use but would that work or is that tied to their account?

    Thanks.

So had a quick google search. Is this something that if i attached to the dish and ran a second cable to a spare box that would work or would it only show what was on the main box in the front room?

If you have sky plus it uses 2 wires going into your skybox , and without just one wire in simple speak . I assume for a second sky box you will need a second sky card ... Without it you will only get the free stations

    Yup,,You need the quad lnb.....

Plus,,you also need an active phone line for the second box.....Otherwise sky charge you fulll sub for the second box.

Sorry for hijacking the thread OP but I didn't want to clutter up the site with threads.

I want to get in the multi room with plus, but I don't want to pay 199 euro, will sky send out a card if I had a box already in place??

    Indeed they will.
You can get SKY+ boxes over on adverts these days for 20 nicker. :P

I already have Sky+ subscription. If i got the free HD box without the function of recording for multiroom does that mean i could just swap the sky card from this to a Sky+ box i can get from a friend for free?

So to clarify (for my own benefit) :-)

If I have a sky+ setup, and I get another sky+ box, all I need to do is run two more cables down from the quad LNB to the new (second hand) box and I effectively have multiroom?
Assume that on the second one I will only receive the free channels, but full sky+ capabilities?

Nope, you need a subscription to use the Sky + functionality.

    Thanks.
so my best option (with what I have) is to run the cable from an LNB to a sky box (no point using a sky+ box) and receive multiroom in that manner (main room with Sky+ and the channels, kids room with free channels and no sky+.
With the quad LNB, can do this twice, so have sky+ and channels, free channels in room * 2.

    That right?

@OP : Be sure to ring Sky if you haven't already.

That 199 euro for a second box for multiroom seems off to me. If you've never had multiroom before and are looking to get it in for the first time I'd be surprised if they weren't offering you a free box ... or close to it.
