Are you high maintenance or low maintenance?

I think I might be high maintenance. I don't ask for a lot of stuff but I do tend to end up spoiled. And I do like to have a lot of attention from him.

That said I think my OH is rather high maintenance too. Very particular about things. I don't mind a bit though, so maybe high maintenance types get along well and vice versa?

What do you think? Which are you and which is your OH?

    God?

I wouldn't have lumped attention in with the things necessary for being high maintenance. but maybe that's just me.

I'd be fairly low maintenance. but then i'm not entirely sure what this means either.

    Sorry no, the OH.

I thought all this high-maintenance / low-maintenance stuff only applied to couples. Now you have me wondering though.

Yeah, I'm not sure either, I'm curious to know what others think.

I don't mean to sound rude but isn't being high or low maintenance applicable to anyone with a personality?

I suppose so, but I've only ever heard the term used in relation to couples though. Mostly women, I think.

well I would assume high maintenance means needy, bored easily, needs to be taken out all the time, etc... things that require a lot of work.

but then if you bring general attention into it, you are just talking about a basic need for mutual interest, or anything more is verging on needy.

    I'd say that's about 95% of the male population....guys are great. :D

Extremely low maintenance. Then again I am a bloke and many of us are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,646 ✭✭✭✭Sauve

    Very low also.
Couldn't be bothered moaning and whingeing to get what I want. I gave that up when I was three. Now I just sort myself out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,425 ✭✭✭gargleblaster

Neither myself nor the other half whinges to get what we want, so based on these responses it looks like we're not high maintenance after all. Just well-matched, very picky people. :)

I would say that high maintenance is people that spend a lot of time and money on their appearance and expect to be spoiled.

    I'm definitely not high maintenance

    Low.

I find high maintenance people rather annoying.

My maintenance level had decreased proportionally as my age has increased. Used to be high, now it's below sea level.

There are a couple of definitions here and I'm not sure which to apply to myself.

I always assumed someone who is high maintenance is emotionally needy and requires a lot of attention. I always thought I was normal enough in this regard, but I have to say, when compared with a lot of my female acquaintances I'm very low maintenance. The OH is extremely low, he's very easy to please. :pac:

    I'd agree with this.

There's emotionally high maintenance and money-high maintenance...usually the two go hand in hand though.

I would consider myself low-medium maintenance. I have been told that a certain amount of 'management' goes in to me, especially when I'm moody, but I think that's reasonably normal.

I HATE when guys try to pay for me for anything, although when I settle into a nice relationship, I do prefer a little give and take with money- I pay sometimes, he pays others. Works out 50/50. I honest to god can't understand girls who are happy to let their boyfriend buy stuff for them constantly, especially clothes

I know one girl who will get angry on nights out at her boyfriend over something tiny, he goes off to do whatever it was he should have done, and she will smirk at me, saying 'and that's how we get what we want!' The same girl will not even attempt to take out her purse for drinks/entry fee. She's quite happy to let him get the tab for everything.

He's the bigger fool for staying with her

If my fellow thought that he needed to buy me stuff to ensure my continued love and affection then he would be with the wrong woman. I don't need *stuff*, I am not a material girl.

And I've got no time for spoiled brats who use their gender to whinge and whine to their fella that he doesn't love her because he doesn't buy her *stuff* every day. Get a grip and a job so you can look after yourself. And some guys need to man up, IMHO.

It's a bizarre phenomenon alright, but you do actually get people who love 'maintaining'... I've had a few chats with him, and he loves it. Apparently he just wants to see her happy, and 90% of the time knows when he is being manipulated, but is fine with it. They've been together for about 6 years now!

See, I'm afraid of being like that! :pac: I would feel like I was taking advantage. I won't complain about my OH spoiling me though. I appreciate it very much. :)

Well I'll like to buy gifts and go places and pay for food and stuff. Though I'll start to lose respect if the girl starts becoming needy materialistically, still if she had other good qualities that'ld make up for it. Though I don't like materialistic people...

Depends what you mean OP. In terms of relationships and dating well men would consider me High Maintenance but then again my friends might consider me as Low Maintenance so say I am in the middle between high and low!

By the other reference I am unsure what to say about that could be either cause I don't know myself as I have standards!

I'm the eldest of six children. I was thrown out of the cot before I got comfortable. I reckon that's made me more low maintenance throughout my life

Both myself and my partner in crime are low maintenance. Pretty much everything we do is relatively costless, and when we do go out for food/drinks/cinema we pay our own way respectively, we don't text each other all the time nor do we expect prompt replies if one of us does text. I don't go off the deep end if/when he does stuff that annoys me, because I know he's not a mind reader. So I'd describe myself as low. I'm pretty much content with walking the dog together, watching crappy tv, drinking hot beverages and having sexy time. Not all at the same time obviously.

I do have one high maintenance point actually, he knows I get freaked out if I have to walk home in the dark alone, so he pretty much always walks me home if we're out together after dark, but he lives a 5 minute walk from my house so while it's extremely considerate and I appreciate it, it's not really a big deal or out of his way.
