Sky have just tried to rip us off!

Have been with Sky for 2 years. Very happy with the service up until today. We cancelled our subscription (at the beginning of August) and gave a months notice as we moved in with my parents for a coupe of months to save etc. When we moved in on Monday of last week, we discovered that one of my parents boxes was broken. So we connected our box and called Sky back up and set up our account again.

Today, a technician came out to fix their box (Sky wanted to charge 100e for this but waved the charge as my Dad said he wouldn't pay it). He removed our box and said that we could just call up Sky and as a change of address customer' could have the box connected to their dish, no prob. We want to put the sky box in our bedroom. So we called Sky this evening and they now say that

    A. They can't connect our box to the existing dish as they won't have 2 accounts on the one dish and

    B. They won't put up another dish because they won't put 2 dishes on the one house.

They want us to cancel our Sky and my parents take on a 12 month contract for Sky multi room for an extra 15e a month on top of their existing 110e per month bill.

So we have no Sky from today and they still want us to pay a cancellation fee of 90 odd euro as our bill runs to the 6th October (bear in mind we reconnected just Tuesday of last week). So even if my parents took on multi room, we'd still have to pay the cancellation fee.

They basically want us to pay for Sky for the next month when we don't even have it!!! They were totally unhelpful on the phone and passed us back and forth for 35 mins.

    Where is the logic? :mad::confused:

    Advice?

    A. You should not have told them that there was a dish already there( or did they know that anyway?)
B You should have signed up as new customers, using your spouse's name or the Gaelic version of either of your names.
C Don't ever give Sky more info without asking them why. They already know enough about you.

This is exactly how it works and must surely work out cheaper than two separate subscriptions?

As post above said why didn't you just get your parents to get multi room. You can still do that.

The problem is, even though we wanted to do multi room, we still had to pay for our Sky account up to October 6th. This was our issue. We wanted multi room and had agreed to split the cost with my parents. Am I being unreasonable to think we shouldnt have to pay for a subscription we dont have because Sky cant connect us?

Its like being asked to pay for a bottle of water with no water in it!!!! A bottle that costs 90 euro!!

Your contract was up in October so you should of bought yourself out of it and it wouldn't cost 90 euro.

    Advice?

Just go into the bank and cancel the direct debit

I think you are missing the point here. Our new contract technically began last monday but we were never actually connected to Sky. We gave a months notice for our previous contract and that was all wrapped up. They want us to pay for Sky for the next month even though we never had it on our new contract to begin with.

Also, what do you mean when you say "you should have bought yourself out of it"?? How much would that have cost??

You can buy yourself out of a contract with Sky it all depends how many months you have left. As the poster above says cancel direct debit and get on to head office to complain.
