Does anyone know if you can get stuff posted c/o your local post office and then go in and collect it in person?

No, not without paying for the service.

Actually I did get it for free several times. If it is going to be an ongoing thing you will need to register and pay for it.

I went in and asked them if it was OK beforehand of course, and rang them another time and had no trouble. I brought in ID when I went to collect. Once was in the post office in UCD (I expect it happens a lot there with people looking for accomodation). But I did it in 2 local post offices too. This was years ago though, they might stick to the official rules now.

A lot of that has changed recently, and what they used to do for free the odd time has now been stopped. Cut backs, eh?

If you're not at home, they will attempt a delivery and then bring the package back to the post office anyway, where they hold it for a few days. If that's all you need, then just do that.

I get all parcels sent to my work address, as nobody is every home to collect. I also think it can be faster to get stuff to a business address, could be coincidence though.

How can I do what the op wants ?

My Over zealous power hungry dad has stopped me from buying stuff online as the postman wakes him up at 7:30am from his sleep.

I suppose you could set your alarm for 7.00 and be waiting at the door when the postman arrives?

The only way to do it is pay for the collection service.

If I could not get stuff sent to my work I would consider getting some sort of american style post box. The ones you see outside houses on TV where the postman puts stuff in and locks it. Or those big ones you can see in industrial estates where you dump stuff in and you cannot get it out again, like this.

Or tell him to drop anything into your green bin and check it each morning, I have heard of this done already by couriers and postmen.

I think the mail collection service works for a year only.

I might look into those american style postbox.

Can anpost deliver a mail at a particular time if requested.

I doubt it very much, not for free anyways.

Thinking again I imagine a special post box would cost a lot. The green bin is always an option, or some discrete box stashed in a bush that you tell him about, could have a lock mechanism so you leave it open, he fills it and shuts it which locks it.

Also ask in your college, as I said ealier I got stuff sent to mine, but it was only a few times.

Poste Restante is a free service that allows visitors to a town to have their mail addressed to the local Post Office, where it will be held for collection.

If you're not a visitor, then you can expect that they won't do this. If you try to claim you are, then they're not going to believe it. They already know you live there because they've been delivering your mail.

You might get it once or twice, but it could not be ongoing. I did it years ago with 2 local post offices, as well as the college one. I knew nobody would be in to collect and did not want to have to go all the way to the sorting office.
