If it's for something like Enbrel, you need to see a specialist here to get them to prescribe it. GPs can't. It's only been covered by Medicare since early 2010 I think, so chances are with your passport you would pay the PBS price of $34.20. If for any reason, the condition doesn't fulfill Medicare requirements, you will not be eligible for a special authority and then have to pay full price which is huge, over a thousand dollars per script/per box.
Australia works on a much smaller formulary than Ireland so there may be products at home which are either not on the market here or are not covered by Medicare.
If you can, bring enough from home to see you through 3+ months here so you don't get stuck.
You could try and contact Medicare directly with the query.
    pbs@medicareaustralia.gov.au

And obviously bring all relevant paperwork, referrals etc from Ireland to show Drs here.
