Heard today that young drivers (could be <21 or <25) get 4 penalty points instead of 2 with a speeding ticket.

Anybody know if that's true?

Should be banned outright, you need to be at least 30 to speed safely.

I am 32 and I still got done twice in one week... I wouldnt mind I was never caught before as I never speed only I was on my own on both times.

They don't. Such an attempt would be illegal anyway under age discrimination rules

The proposal is for higher points for those with an <2 year issued full licence or a learner permit but this is, clearly, age-irrelevant as you can have your licence for under 2 years at 17 or 70.

As far as I know it is coming in but it will be for provisional licence holders or newly qualified drivers. It will be similar to the new drink drive limits which are lower for provisional and newly qualified drivers.

Instead of "are" you should say "will be" as they don't apply yet.

I really hope they don't bring it in, caught 3 times and off the roads seems very harsh

Age related rules of the road are retarded. However, people on provisional/learner permit/probation period licences should have a higher penalty ad the early days are where you get your bad habbits.

Don't be so bloody pedantic. That's a ridiculous correction to make.

I wasn't trying to be pedantic. If it was taken that way - sorry.

I was just trying to bring up the fact, that new alcohol limits don't apply yet, as many people think they do.
Atlantic Down's post could lead someone that it was the fact actually, so that was the reason for my correction.

Sorry if I was snappy, but I think he had it covered with:

I don't think there was ever a chance that someone could read his post and think it was legislation already implemented.

Fair enough if you read it differently. Let's agree to disagree :)

That's how I understood it - but you know English is not my first language.

If I was wrong - sorry..

Its twice for new drivers in the UK (and 4 for long-term qualified!)
