Im wanting to enlarge the opening between our kitchen and the extension, the wall is of course load bearing. the opening will grow from one door wide to roughly 2.6meters.

Any idea how much a beam this length would cost?

And whats the proper name on this type of beam - is it an I-beam?

    Based in Wexford.

    Thanks guys

Probably a universal beam, but without knowing what's above it there is no way of knowing what its dimensions need to be - there are an enormous numbers of UBs. It's a job for a structural engineer.
